PS2 Video Quality
PS2 Video Quality
Okay, well it seems the HD bug has gotten a good grasp of our house here. We recently received out HD box from the cable company and have been addicted to watching the great quality video it puts out...
Now with the comming of GT4 im hoping the quaility is halfway decent. I say this becuase when playing gt3 on the tv its a pain on your eyes. its hard to distinguish the numbers n what not and the picture seems distorted. Yes i understand this could possibly be becuase the the screen is 52" and its a widescreen picture, but there surely has to be something that sony has done to solve this.
It seems that after 10 minutes of tweaking the color properites and brightness you get a decent picture but nothing thats going to allow you to play for long periods of time w.o getting a head ache.
any one expirence this? I was looking at better cables, but is there maybe an option im missing on the ps2 or something?
any help would be awesome.

I just got through researching this stuff. Here's what you need..
-PS2 HD Component cables; the Standard Sony ones cost $30, but they only better the color. For an incredible HD experience, I think the extra $30 for the top-of-the-line Monster or Psychone (sp?) are well worth it if you want to spend. The Sony ones do nothing to the texture. I have the Monster Cable's equal, but I think either 1 would do. Once you have the cables, replace your video switch on the back of the PS2 with those. Instead of plugging them into standard Video (red, white, yellow), put them in the HD plugs of the back of the TV (Green, Blue, Red).
Here's the problem, though. Most TVs (like mine) have only 2 of these plugs. Mine were being used for the Surround Sound system's DVD player and the HDTV box. If you don't want to spend anymore money, you need to make a sacrifice on 1 of those. Otherwise, expect to pay around $30 for the worst piece of crap that'd allow you to split the plug. The best stuff costs $500. The $30 stuff definately is crap. Best Buy offers a splitter for $100 that will also let you hook up Game Cube and XBOX is you have them. Currently, I have the DVD player's wires out, replaced with the PS2's wires. I don't want to spend $100 for a subpar splitter, and it isn't like I watch DVDs often.
ANYWAY, once you have switched the standard input from the PS2 to the TV for the new HD one, set your video (Video 1, 2, etc) to the corresponding input. In the game, go to "Screen" (something like that), and on the bottom, switch Normal for HDTV. It won't save the settings and you're going to have to reset it every time you turn the TV on. Also, the game goes into 16:9 automatically to adapt to the widescreen of HD. This gets annoying because HD is only on during racing, so all of your cars will looked narrow and tall. But honestly, it's worth the picture.
There's what I did. Good luck.
oh and this is what you'll be looking for. My Best Buy had the equal to these and I went for them. Monster Cables

I have the Psyclone ones. DEFINATELY don't go with the Mad Catz if you want better texturing. The Monster and Psyclone cables are in different leagues compared to the Mad Catz. I tried the Sony ones, and compared to the Psyclones I know have, there's no comparison. The extra money is well worth it IMO; I mean you want HD, so pay the extra 50 in this case to get HD, not just better color, which is what you'll get with the Mad Catz.

I've never tried the Psyclone cables but I can definitely vouch for the monster cables. The difference is night and day. Everything becomes so much more clear and crisp. Even the sound is improved!!!
