PS2: Resident Evil 4
PS2: Resident Evil 4
Well, it just came out for the PS2...Kinda inclined to buy it. The reviews are great and I hear the new targetting system is kinda nifty. Quick question to those who have it already or played it on the GameCube...is it that annoying tank-controls again?
Resident Evil 4 is probably the best game I've ever played. I love it so much that I'm going to get the PS2 version as well. I've never had more fun playing any game than RE4 ever. Well that's what I think about it anyway. As far as the control scheme, I think it's great. It's not like most first person shooters (because it's not a first person shooter) but for the game it works. It's much much better than the previous RE games. It still took some getting use to at first but once you've played around with it for a while it's pretty easy. The PS2 version may be different from the Gamecube one. I say go out and rent it first to see the controls for yourself, but I'm sure you'll end up buying it.

Camera is always behind you and up makes you walk forward. I guess its like the old control scheme except for the fact that the camera is always behind you and not stuck in some random ass area like the old ones.

Another thing, when you want to shoot, you press the R button and Leon stays in the direction he is facing and he is limited to that view. There is a laser pointer and you use the analog stick to aim. You are limited to what you are seeing in front of you. You can't turn or walk until you let go of the R button. Also you have to reload in real time. You can't go into your briefcase and reload. You can switch guns anytime though so if you run out of bullets and have to reload, it's better to switch guns instead because reloading takes a few seconds depending on the gun and those guys will get you by then.
Anyway, I hope I expanded on what Thatguy said and not confused you. The best thing to do is try out for yourself. I think is a great game to own but if you have doubts, rent it first.

The controls is like a first person shooter game with the exception that you are looking over Leon's shoulder and you can't go side to side. You are always walking the direction Leon is facing. So you always press up to walk forward and left and right to turn and rotate direction. In the Gamecube, you press B and down and you do a 180 turn. So say you are going forward then you press B and down and Leon turns around quickly and you are running the other way. What makes the game freaky is that since you are looking over Leon's shoulder, you can't see what is behind you, so I am always running foward and looking around to make sure nothing is creeping behind me.

I didn't dig it, I hated how you had to stop moving to shoot, and how there was no strafing. Makes the game hella harder. I just died over and over as soon as I got to the first village and gave up.
