i loved starcraft 1 so much because the game didn't require much of computer spec, but now this one gets way too serious.

im not gonna buy a new computer to play computer games

i think im too old for this..

new computer needed? if so build or buy?

Now this this game has an official release date, I'm wondering if my 5 year old build will be able to handle it.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 3400+
1 or 2 Gig ram, (I really don't remember, its been so long since I put this thing together)
Radeon x800

According to the min requirements, it would work, but question is how well?

Its about time for a new computer anyway. After my first build in 05, I planned on building one every year, but never got around to it. Now it seems things have changed and its really not much of a savings to build one myself vs. buying one other than the satisfaction.

For comparison I priced a PC with AMD Phenom II 945, with 6GB ram, Radeon 5450, and a 750GB Hard drive for $749.99

Building the same computer only with a 1.5TB HD comes out to 603.95, and that is without the case, power supply, and other supplies so I'm guessing it will be about the same price after all is said and done.

What do you guys think? build or buy?

I'd say buy. At least you have a warranty behind the purchase vs having to troubleshoot what went wrong with your build if it doesn't POST. Only reason to build is if you plan to overclock. Too bad we don't have the tax free holiday anymore.

I'm wondering if this game will handle on my new laptop. Gotta check their site to see if they have a demo I can download to test it.

If you build it why not use your old case and dvd drive (unfortunately your psu may not have some of the more modern connectors)? That is one of the pluses of building them for me. Though I may spend allot on a case and a solid psu I will use them for years to come. The old parts won't get you much on craigslist, but selling them may still help.

On the other hand Dell has the xps 7100 on sale right now. With a 5770 and a x6 processor it is ~780.

yep i forgot about the tax free holiday we no longer have. that would have saved me abt $50 right there. sucks...

im not sure my old case would fit the new mb but i was planning on that being my wife/son's comp. they had another one but it kept messing up and i got tired of fixing it so i just created accounts for them on mine.

i may end up getting sc2 before i decide on my next comp. I guess it cant hurt to see how it would work on my current pc.
