ok.... best I could muster so far is 1:32.286. Now, that is a 100% clean lap. You did not mention anything about hitting walls and such in your description of the race. Discuss.
and, S2 tires = Sports, Medium, correct?
Having raced this track about 15 laps and only getting 1:32, I personally don't feel I can shave 3 seconds off that, without hitting walls. Maybe a second or maybe two if I'm real lucky..... but not 3. Am I missing something? I'm running the stock SL65 in arcade mode, ASM & TCS on...

I know I can shave off more time but I'm too sick of this track. A couple of places where I shaved mad time off:
First right. A very difficult near U turn. If I slow down too late I eat the wall. Try 2nd gear turn but avoid the wall.
The next right is not really a turn but the one after that you can take in 3rd but you have to slow down, I seem to be better off nailing the wall. If I slow down it's too slow.
The first left where you will eat the wall is key to not go too fast. Another trap similar to the first right.
The right before the long straight always determines my time. Hit it in 2nd and try to just get the most speed through it. The key is finding the perfect angle.
The U-turn after the straight. God I hate these kinds of turns. I sometimes slow myself down but rubbing on the wall on the right side since stock brakes suck. Probably start breaking 150ft before the turn. Do a perfect U with no wall bumps.
The last S turn before the finish is very tricky. Gotta find the angle so that when you go left you don't eat that corner. I haven't figured it out yet. I sometimes go down to 1st if I hit it too quick and just not upshift until after the S or leave it in 2nd. All depends on where my RPMs are at.

In all seriousness. Online Racing has almost a cult following and interest now at the various racing sites. Many of the boards have setup "standards" by which races must be raced, rules to be followed, etc. Two wheels must always be on the designated course at all times (meaning it's ok to kinda go in the grass, but one side of wheels should remain on the road - so these aren't necessarily super strict rules) - however hitting walls is not allowed, period. And you're right, there's no way to tell if someone hasn't hit walls to achieve a time. What they usually say is, if a time is too good to be true, they need to supply a video of the run. That is pretty much it, the way to prove a clean lap. And, if you run a lap and post your time online, people are taking your word that you have abided by these rules and standards in achieving that lap. If you have knowingly gone through and hit walls to take turns faster thus resulting in a faster time, you're cheating. Plain and straight.
But let's think about this. What if I revisit Hong Kong tonight, and hit all the walls - the gentle sweeper after turn 1, where the SL has a strong tendency to understeer if you are going to fast into it, as gentle as it is - yeah I'm just gonna go full throttle, not let off at all. There's a wall to stop me, not like I'm gonna fly off into the ocean. That tricky hairpin at the end of the middle straight? Yeah I'm just gonna go careening into it at full throttle. Let the walls whip me around and through. What satisfaction can I get out of doing that? Where is the challenge there? The answer is, there isn't any challenge. It becomes a contest of who can run the sloppiest, fastest lap. Think about this - what if we were racing in real life? Could you just bounce off a wall because you're able to take that turn much faster? The answer is obvious.
There are sites that dictate Online Racing (OLR) rules - I will find some and post them later. But I don't know if it's really worth it, you guys don't seem to care what kind of lap you run.
I don't mean to be so... I don't know, I don't know what the word is... about this... but I just have to say, if hitting walls is OK in these contests, then I know I am not going to be competitive with my times, because it's just not in my driving style to hit walls - I don't get anything out of doing that. It does nothing for me.

Do you mean ANAL???
Actually I rarely use walls to "cheat". But you're right as they're several courses where going through grass or off walls helps. Last S turn in Trial Mountain ring any bells. Let's just use the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid.

after about 10 laps and some experimenting with the ASm ansd TCS. i was doing this in arcade mode and i only had on the TCS. i fell like i could shave a second off of that time or more. i was in that position until i really screwed up on corner. oh well i'll try tonight to see if i get anything.
