that was a pretty cool video.. no black turtle necks, no crazy hyped up overselling.

I worry about the new joycon plugs though, that external bit of PCB is just asking to be broken

Finally watched the video.
Bigger size, a plus for sure. The joycons feel too small when detached.
Assuming they're magnetic rather than the slide/lock currently used. A bit surprised to see the exposed chip on the console side rather than just a magnetic contact
Adjustable kickstand is nice too, the flimsy little stick on my kid's switches is a joke.

our OG kickstand broke off.

our oled switch is a nice large metal design.

not that anyone ever uses them.

new joycons will also have a “mouse” function on certain games.

but come on Nintendo. Release specs. Stop with the bs

Everything revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

After years of rumors, Nintendo has finally announced a release date for the Switch 2. The long-awaited successor to the Switch will be available on June 5th for $449.99, bringing a handing of games and accessories along with it. It will be available for preorder in the US from select retailers starting on April 9th, as both a standalone console and as a limited-edition bundle with Mario Kart World for $499.99.

As predicted, the Switch 2 features a larger 7.9-inch LCD display, with support for 1080p resolution and HDR, 256GB of built-in storage, and up to 6.5 hours of battery life. The Joy-Cons are bigger, too, and now magnetically attach to the console instead of relying on a pair of sliding rails to snap into place. They also offer mouse-like functionality with select games, and the right Joy-Con sports a “C” button, which can be used for in-game chat features, screensharing, and other actions.

Backward compatible to the OG switch?
If so, makes upgrading more practical & curious if older games are upscaled for it.

The video says that original Switch games can be played on Switch 2 "if compatible". I suppose that means most games will work, but they are just putting out a disclaimer in case something doesn't work.

I wonder what new games will come out in 2025. MarioKart World was heavily featured. I assume that the demo showed a new Metroid game with the mouse controls.

I heard it's $80 for digital, $90 for physical.

Nintendo Switch 2 preorders in U.S. delayed because of Trump's tariffs

April 4, 2025

Nintendo will not take preorders for its new game console next week, the company said Friday, as it evaluates the impact of President Donald Trump's new, far-reaching tariffs.

The Japanese electronics giant had been set to accept Switch 2 advance orders in the United States on Wednesday, but that's now been pulled off the table — though Nintendo insisted that its June 5 launch date "is unchanged."

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," according to a company statement. "Nintendo will update timing at a later date. "

The company just revealed details of the hotly anticipated Switch 2 two days ago, saying it would sell for $449.99.

That same day, Trump revealed he would hit Japanese imports with a 24% tariff.

Nintendo also has strong manufacturing ties to Vietnam, which was hit with a 46% tariff.

Michael Pachter, managing director of equity research for Wedbush, said he doesn't believe these tariffs will end up being enforced. But he understands why Nintendo hit the re-set button.

"It's just too uncertain," Pachter told NBC News on Friday. "They don't want to tell people $449, when the price is going to be $500, $600 or $700. We don't know."

I ended up getting the Mario Kart World bundle. Simply walked in to Target at like 9:30am and walked out. Pretty easy. Nintendo seems to have a done a great job with stock this time around.

The system is what you’d expect. Familiar but definitely an upgrade in every way.

Now I just need to sell our OG switch and the OLED.
