Microsoft Flight Sim
Microsoft Flight Sim
I just got this thing. version 2004.
I have no joystick, is it worth buying one? Also, since I havce never flown aplane, I'm wondering how realistic it is? Any cool things I should try out?

I played it once or twice when I got a free copy from a vendor show...Strangely enough it was the version where you can fly a 747 into the WTC...which I did. Other then making the planes crash into things, it's real boring IMO....But if you get into it, you probably want a flight joystick (although it seemed that every key on the keyboard did something)...
It's fun, but like. It isn't a game.
It's a sim, so if flying from l.a to ny and making all your own arangements and pushing all the little buttons in the cockpit yourself sounds like great fun, it's for you. If you like wonderful spectacular flames and crashes it isn't.

Why the fuck did you buy this?

It's pretty realistic, get a force feedback joystick you really get into it. People use it to practice cerification for instrumentation.
But ya, it's not a game... it's a simulator.
Get a forcefeed back joystick. I've flown co-pilot on Cessnas, Kingairs and a helicopter and the MS Flight Sim is about as good as they get short of going to a military or airline simulator.

Silly bloke, the certificate is on the inside of the box, not the outside.
i never had enough patience to fly the cessna for any time longer than say, about 10 seconds or so. :P I would always take the jets out, and also there was one aircraft design pack back in the day that had a custom plane editor - you could create your own aircraft - even alter body structure, wings, everything. As well as thrust yeah I had fun with that program.
For fun I would use the slew feature to get around very quickly, looking back it reminds me very much of Google Earth.
One thing I love to do is take a helicopter tour of Vegas. Land on buildings, etc. very challenging.

If it does not involve blowing planes out of the air, im not interested......
There is a flight game called Falcon 4.0. You fly a F-16. The book it comes with is pretty thick. Im sure if you could read through that book, i dont doubt you could fly a real one.
That game is pretty realistic for a military sim.
