The History of Console Prices (Absolute and Adjusted)

First, the Absolute Prices (aka obvious prices):

... and now ... Adjusted for Inflation:

Wow. NeoGeo and 3DO would be nearly $1000 in todays money! No wonder they were such big hits!

On the flip-side, I still can't figure out why Dreamcast wasn't more popular. Technologicaly superior to it's competition, and much cheaper. Was it simply ahead of its time?

And finally, you're a fucking idiot if you buy a PS3

Nice find soopa, but I will be buying a PS3, just not when it comes out.

My PS2 still has a long life ahead of it, and I will wait for the prices to drop ($600 is too rich for my blood)

The games will make the PS3, hands down.

And the price will drop, like a rock, indeed. I don't see how they think they will be able to compete with Microsoft at that price.

From what I remember, there wasn't a killer game that caught peoples attention like the other systems had. I don't remember there being many games at all actually. I just played that bass fishing game all the time.

This topic is interesting.

Here's another thought. What about game pricing? IIRC, back during the NES era, games were priced about the same as they do now, no more than $50. Based on inflation, that means a game in 1987 is equivalant to $90 now.

I remember back then... I'd always end up buying the "odd ball" console... when people were buying the Atari 2600... I went with something.... I think, it was called "the Odyssey"... it actually had a keyboard... which I never understood why... well, you can use it to... say... enter your initials when you scored high or something... which is totally redundant, I think they were trying to make it look like a computer or something... it was a POS,

...then when everybody were gettin' the Nintendo... I went with 3DO...

For many people, the PS2's deal breaker was its ability to play DVD movies. A lot of my friend's first DVD players were PS2, since players alone were going for 200-300 at the time.

Also, the PS2 could play PS1 games, which was big (GT2 was the title to have).

I went with Dreamcast and to this day I haven't upgraded. Although with the PS3 coming out, I'm considering a cheap PS2

And ladies and gentlemen, I give you the reason people are pro-choice.

I think you should complete the third grade before you start trying to argue with people. Practicing on your dog should help.
