I would suggest you look into HPs laptops. My company uses them and I have no complaints.

Currently we have 3 laptops:
Sony Vaio - Very solid, light, good battery
Dell m700 - So far no issues - 1 year old. Light, solid
Toshiba - Just got it, seems ok so far.

They are pricey, but they are the best laptops on the market. Quality hardware, good support, good warranty, etc.

Hehe nope. Been in the computer business for 13 years. I've tried every type of notebook on the market, and Sager are the only ones that never give me a problem. I started buying them for all of my company, unless they're in the woods doing survey work or something, then they get Toshiba Toughbooks.

Another company I like is Brick Computer. www.brickcomputers.com

They make quality stuff as well.

Whiskers, I'd call Dell and see if you can still get a replacement for it.

I bought my 24 inch LCD monitor from DELL and it crapped out on me a month or two after the warranty ended. I called them, they tried to fix it, but found no cause, sent me a brand new one even though my warranty was way over. Dell's not too bad, I've had my Dimension 9150 for a year and a half now, and it's still in tip top condition.

For what it's worth, its the unit overheating....Not sure why (fans seem to be spinning). I literally have my laptop in my freezer so I can take a ghost image of it....

i hated my old dell --> old crappy inspiron 1150. mb died a month after warrantee. theres a lawsuit settlement in the states that will replace certain models.. but i can't do shit yet since im in canada.. the lawsuit is still in the process...

i'd say you'll eventually have to take your losses and get something else if dell or a friend won't fix it for cheap

fuck man... wish i'd read this 2 weeks ago...
We now have 4 laptops in the family

2002 Dell Inspiron 5100 - in 2004 it stopped loading the OS, dead for 3 years, a month ago i wiped it out, reloaded everything, working fine, in 2002 $2,200.... stupid parents

2004 HP ZV8000 (best Buy) - mom's laptop, huge ass and heavy 17in laptop, but solid, $1,150

2004 HP DV6000 (Best Buy) - Bro's college laptop, actually kinda flimsy, not so fast, not so good @ $1,000

2007 HP DV6000 - Dad's 50th b-day present, vista aint that bad, little learning curve, fastest computer i've used (2gb ram), the best wireless receiver ive used, $1,250 could've used that rebate
