Not for the undertimined. Although I found a force feedback setting and a setup that have made it tolerable it's still pretty damn tough. I don't think I have more than five total laps where I haven't spun. I guess I had it in the back of my mind that GTL would be like GTR without the downforce. Wrong! These cars are completely different animals. Oh yeah, overall it looks much better than GTR. Antialiasing routines still suck though.

The demo keeps crashing on my box.

I can get into the menu then it just bombs out...

Hopefully they'll have a patched version soon.

About the only thing I can think of is simething, you've probably already tried. See if turning down the shader level in the config program makes any difference. I haven't seen anything about this helping stability, but I have I read some reports where this helped people's frame rates quite a bit. Can't hurt to try I guess.

finally had a chance to install and play it... I had a different experience with it - I didn't seem to have much trouble with the cars - sure I spun out but I just picked it up and started hotlapping, pretty much. I LOVE how you can CONTROL the slides.... in the previous games (GTR, GTR 2002) - if you go into a slide, and try to counter (like in real life) - you're kinda out of luck. You lose control, at least, I do. In this game, you can actually feather the throttle through a turn, drifting while counter-steering - it's great and feels very realistic. Of course, I've never driven an old Vette race car before, but you know what I mean. I used Pro mode (the hardest) - I really wanted to post a vid of the replay but I can't find my stinking digicam. Anyway I will DEFINITELY be buying this game when it comes out!!!! can't wait to try the old faster cars such as the 917 - which I believe I saw in one of the trailer vids!! not to mention the other cars and tracks.

I don't know how much reading you did in the RSC forums, but be aware that the demo basically has all the driving aids enabled no matter what you set in the GUI. You have to manually edit your .plr file to turn them off. There's a sticky thread on doing this over at RSC.

I'm now am having relatively few problems controlling the car. Although I'm pretty much only driving the Lotus. Maybe it's the setups I've tried, but the Vette seems like a complete pig to me compared to the Lotus. Sounds fookin' awesome though! I really haven't put much seat time in on the Jag. BTW, did it take you a while to get used to the gearbox? After driving sims with six and seven speed gearboxes for the past two years, the four speed just seemed alien to me for quite a while.

oh... oops. I did zero reading on it at RSC....... LOL. I guess they don't wanna discourage anyone from buying the game, so they keep it "easy"..... lol. I tried the Lotus too, after the Vette - a LOT of fun. The gearbox was definitely awkward at first, I found myself doing double-takes at the gear indicator and trying to upshift at the end of the straight..... like EVERY time... lol. also it was hard to tell what gear you were in. sometimes it seems like its neutral, but its actually first, and vice versa... lol. the gear indicator was easier to see on the Lotus... I didnt even see one on the Vette... didnt look too hard for it though.

ok damn..... time to edit that blasted .plr file - I shoulda figured, there was something else going on, judging from how easy it was and judging from how a hardcore sim-racer such as yourself had trouble with it.... thanks for the heads-up

There's a single set of setups posted over at RSC. May as well snag those while you're over there. The lotus setup made a big difference for me in terms of being able to feel the car.

Dan, check this thread about crashing issues:

ok ...... for some reason I can't drift as well now, lol.... and, the car definitely doesn't like braking while turning. Took me about 7 laps before I ran a clean lap... the 9th lap was a 1'19.7 on the short course, in the Elan. What kind of numbers are you getting? This is good fun.

My PB's are a 1:33.91 on the GP course and a 1:16.05 on the short course. I'm to the point where I can run high 16's on the short course somewhat consistantly. I probably only have about 1/3 the amount of laps on the GP course so I really don't recall what my usual times are for that one.

Download GT.... Not a bad game, graphics look excellent, but i have a hard time keeping the cars on the track, there just seems to be something that does not feel right about it.

The last car race game I really enjoyed was NFS Porsche , what a classic.

Welcome to the world of simulations and not games. Seriously though, take note of what I mentioned to Srika about disabling the driver aids. I found them to actually give me less feel for the road. Here's the thread on the Race Sim Central forums on how to do it:

racing game>simulation game lol, its all the same for the most part, probably like you i've been a gamer since the ole Vic-20 days, and before that with Atari.

I see its very detailed within the options and i'm sure there is tweaks to make the car "feel right" I tried disabling the driver aids via F-1-F5 and it helps but not enough to enjoy it.

Right now its BF2 and with me approaching 10000points... i want to unlock my 2nd gun lol
