Graphics card, whats the best?

Last year i bought a dell xps 3.4 ghz, ive got a gig of ram, plenty of memory, etc, and it came with a radeon x800xt.

Now, is nvidia better than radeon?

Are there any other graphics card out right now that are alot better, that would significantly make a difference, or should i not even bother?

I did some searching, at the home sites for these companies, but did not really find anything that useful.

Thanks

I have the same card you do. The ATI Radeon X800 XT. It works very well for most of the stuff that I need to play. And it was only $270 CDN on sale (I'm poor).

I play World of Warcraft and I can pretty much pump the graphics to about 3/4 of the max allowable without any significant reduction in framerate, with anisotropic filtering on.

The performance crown goes back and forth between NVidia and ATI. At the moment, the fastest card out there is the the ATI 1900 XT/X. It is significantly faster than the NVidia 7800GTX and also can come in a SLI-like configuration (ATI calls it Crossfire).

If you don't want the absolute fastest, the 7800 series is very good as well as the lower 1xxx series ATI cards

Here is a good article on the 1900: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2679

I'll spoil the results and make it clear that the X1900XT and XTX are hands down the best cards out there right now

I've got the 7800 GT and it's preety damn sweet too. I can't imagine two GTX in SLI. That's for crazy gamers.

There is no best, get something now and in 3 months it will be outdated by newer technology. Getting new GFX cards and tweaking them and other settings drives me nuts just to play a game. Fuck that, i'll miss out on a game or two and stick to console gaming.

Well I just bought a 1600 XT for 150 bucks.. and it plays all of my games at MAX detail just fine.

To me its one of the "best bang for the buck" cards.
