Goddamn the XBOX 360 sucks!
Early last week I had to ship off my 3RD XBOX Pro console after my brother told me it was freezing up on all his games. I had a time trying to get Microsoft to even to ship me a box because they claimed it was out of warranty eventhough I purchased a Service contract through Microsoft for it in December of 2006. When I told the idiot rep that I had a service contract on the console that didn't expire in 2009, he proceedes to tell me that the service contract I purchased in 2006 mind you, was for my Elite Console that I purchased December 29 2007. Not only does this not make any since being that it is virtually impossible for me to purchase a service contract for an Elite console I didn't even own at the time. The Elite was not even out in December 2006. After fighting with him to get the supervisor on the phone, he connects me, and the supervisor just tells me to include a copy of my contract when I ship the XBOX back which I did.
Now fast foward to this past weekend. My elite console gave me the RROD a few times before it started working again. I thought all was fine and dandy until this morning when I discovered my XBOX would also freeze on every game. Yet another call to Microsoft Customer Support and I will have to ship my "more reliable" Elite off as well.
When I get my refurb consoles back, it will be my 4th and 5th replacements, in less than 2 years. If I didn't have the warranty on them, I would try to fix them myself, but from now on I will always purchase replacement plans through the retailer rather than the manufacturer. I will stick with these consoles since they are still under warranty, but I will think long and hard before I buy another Microsoft console. Because this is absolutely ridiculous; these consoles are such pieces of shit!

I figured it may be a cooling problem so I waited until its completely cooled then I placed it out in the open, on tile, and it did it again.
None of the wires were kinked, so from my knowledge it wasn't the power supply.
I told him to leave it alone for about a week, and that seemed to solve the problem.

I have mine connected to one of those surge protector boxes in our entertainment room and it's been doing fine the past 2+ years.
my memory was foggy, so I asked him why:
the first time the graphic chip overheated from WiiConnect24 and melted
the 2nd time the disc mechanism broke and it wouldnt' eat discs anymore

And they can't suck more air through the xbox fan than is already moving.
They're like those "tornado" intakes for car engines.
Best bet is to keep the xbox out in the open in a climate controlled room with lots of space around it.

Have you ever put your hand behind one of those while it's running??
That thing pushes hot air pretty good....alot more than what I have felt without it. I'm sticking with it
I got a 2005 360 that ran like a champ all until about a month after I got GTA IV. My friend has a late 2007 360, same with him. All you guys with great-running PS3s and 360s, I dare ya to put in a bunch of cheats in GTA IV. I didn't spam it or anything, I just used to cell phone shortcuts for cheats (when you use the cheat once, you don't have to dial it in again, its like a redial sorta) and I blame it for making my 360 poop itself.
I've gotten the red ring of death twice and in both cases, Microsoft sent new (based on the very recent MFR dates) 360's. I don't know why people keep saying that they're getting refurbished 360's, unless of course the MFR dates aren't accurate.
I hope the OP's situation is resolved soon and everything works out well.
