Gaming: General Discussion Thread
Mass Effect is possibly of my favorite series of all time. In terms of games, movies, literary fiction, etc. Too bad Andromeda is meh.
I don't know if I would buy a "next gen" console now other than the Switch as the PS5 and Xbox One successor should be coming out within the next 2-3 years?
Other than playing Monster Hunter, my PS4 has collected dust. But everyone is different. If you're looking for an RPG, Divinity: Original Sin has great reviews.

Oh yeah, I have Hollow Knight. I was not a Metroidvania-type of game player but it is really fun with an interesting story. Very challenging though.
I am stubborn as hell and pretty good when it comes to technical games. I can usually brute force my way through a game through sheer will, abuse of mechanics, or even with help from youtube but I got stuck on some bosses more than I would like to admit.

I bought Dark Souls for the 360 but never had time to really play it much. I remember all the hype about how tough it was and the player complaints about dying even deep into the game. I think I got it just for kicks. Maybe I'll bust it out again. I'll look into Hollow Knight just to see what it's about.
Then I found out you were not supposed to fight him at that point. That made me want to beat him even more
I am stubborn but my attention span has not kept up as time has gone on so I never really got far in any of the Souls games.Definitely prefer single player games for the challenge, but I have mentioned Monster Hunter, which is a little more multiplayer oriented. More fun with friends, anyway.

I never played Metroid. But is it wrong that I watched an entire play-through of the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden online? For some reason, that game really calls to me, even though in retrospect it was pretty boring and lousy, LOL.
I watch play-throughs all the time, mostly speedruns. I actually recently watched the NG arcade version play-through recently, and Jesus it's terrible.
But seriously, Super Metroid from the SNES is the ultimate 2D action platformer with RPG traits (weapon/armor upgrades). It still holds up and can be easily played for free on an emulator. Castlevania SotN was just rereleased but not sure if PS4 exclusive.

These cards are absolute monsters! I can't wait to see how benchmarks turn out.
My monitor is like 6 years old. Wanted to upgrade a couple years ago, and the itch never went away. Timing is just great now with some nicer options out now.
yea but 1440p is usually 27 inch.
I'm perfectly content with 24". lets me sit close enough that I can see all i need looking straight in to the monitor. no need to shift head or eyes around.

also it was mentioned that those big gain numbers boasted by nvidia are with ray tracing turned on. it remains to be seen how much better they perform with ray tracing turned off or games that don't have it.
we will find out soon thou. the 3080 comes out on the 17th. The 3090 on the 24th
October for the 3070

so.. I'm not too sure on those claims by Nvidia of the 3080 being 2x faster than the 2080.
Link to some leaked synthetic and gaming benchmarks.

Also with ray tracing enabled, the Ampere cards do way better than the Turing cards.
Glossed over the issues with the RTX 3000 cards crashing... that seems to happen regularly with new launches. Glad that Nvidia fixed it so quickly.
and yeah, supply really sucks. I have an ultrawide, but my 1080 struggles to push all the pixels.

I'm not in the market for a new GPU because Mac. But even if I was, i wouldn't have woken up to get one. I like sleep.
I'm going to be screwed if Apple does another 5am preorder for the 12 Pro Max

@Costco Do you have a dedicated PC built just for gaming with your Mac as a daily driver? i'm thinking of doing the same. Or maybe just keep my PS5
i see. i thought you had completely switched over to Mac because walled garden
i might do a budget build. but since i want to go mini ITX, its kind of more than i would like to spend. Namely because I want the NZXT H1
speaking of the H1, I just noticed the price is back down to $349 from $399
(it was originally i think $349 but then they raised the price)
