Flight Sim Wanted
Flight Sim Wanted
Hi,
I am planning to buy a newer flight sim game for the PC. I have Janes WWII Fighter. It is ok but it is kinda outdated. I would like something that my computer can handle; and have a good training to teach me how to fly the plan.
I have a 2.8 P4 with a ATI X800XL.
FS2004 is good they said but I don't think my computer can handle it.
All the reviews for Falcon 4 and IL-2 are also great. I think my computer can handle IL-2 since it is 5 years old.
Do you guys know how these two games compare to WWII Fighter?
Thanks!

fs2004 is gone... flight simulator x is where it is at. The game will adjust itself based on your computer's ability, so you should be fine. I love that game, but landing some of those planes is a bitch. I try to use ILS when I can though.
If you can find FS2004, your computer can handle it just fine, as well as IL-2. But I would agree with above, and would think you could run FSX at medium to reduced settings. Your video card is decent, processor is OK... just add some RAM and you'll be fine.
FWIW I run a 2.8GHz dual core with the same card (PCIXpress 256mb), and I've yet to find anything it can't run at least on medium settings - Including FS2004 and IL-2. Granted I had 1 GB of RAM when running them, which I actually just took up to 2 GB to enable me to better run rFactor and BF2. Considering I'm just running Windows XP MCE, I doubt the dual core makes a huge difference as compared to your processor...I'm sure it makes some, but not enough for me to think you wouldn't be able to get near the same results.
I'm not a real pilot, but my brother-in-law is, and he got me in to FS2004, giving me some airport charts, etc... says its about as real as you can get short of getting in a simulator or spending a couple hundred.
IL-2 is pretty good too, but it certainly has a learning curve.

Hmm... I went to the Ubi site to see what the requirement was for those games. I found this statement in most of their games:
NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some CD-RW, DVD-RW, and virtual drives.
So, the things may break my computer.

Ultimate Flight Collection
I went to Walmart and got a copy of FS2004 ($19.99) and a copy of Ubi's Ultimate Flight Collection ($19.99).
The UFC is kinda disappointing. It is just a pack of the original CDs put in a plastic box. I need to go to their website to hunt for patches and craps like that. I haven't installed all 3 games. There is a big warning that says the copy protection thing may kill my DVDRW and Virtual Disk.
IL-2 looks and sounds awesome otherwise!!!
OTHO, FS2004 is already patched to 9.1. but the used to be fog in the sky is displayed as a rectangular bars on the screen. other than that, it runs pretty good in my computer.
The next step is to get my flight stick back from one of my friends who has borrowed it for months.
