First hand experience with Xbox 360
I played the xbox 360 this weekend. Yes, it was over at my house and it was the unit that is set to be released this november but it includes the HDD and the debug board.
Here's the short story on this bitch: It upconverts all compatible xbox 1.0 (best seller's only) to 720p. Yes, halo2 in 720p upconverted. However, I didn't not see halo2 in 720p..cause I don't have HDTV
Anyway, the games I tried were PGR3, Perfect Dark Zero and one other platform type game..where you can transform/morph into weird things.
Overall gaming experience provide was all in SDTV and it's OK. The dashboard allows you to connect Sony PSP via usb cable and you can read the music (mp3 only) , images, and files off of the PSP. You can rip music (but it's fucking slow as shit) and you can connect to PC and stream shit using media center software.
I have the pictures but am wondering if I'm breaking NDA if I post them...
I have tried the controller and it's wonderful..in fact, it's so good, it beats out every gamepad on the planet. It's really that comfortable! I played halo2 on the xbox360 and I actually was more accurate with the wireless pad than the current xbox S-controller.
The next gen games will look superb in hdtv resolutions. I just don't know after trying out this system if it's that much better than a PC. I can just do so much more with a PC, I don't know if this xbox360 is worth the money. There's no standout games announced yet that I will buy the machine for.
call me biased, but if I see Gran turismo 5 on the PS3, I will buy it without hesistation.
Overall, it's a cool machine, and it's so quiet..the fan is running in temp variable mode. The "blades" in the dashboard is very intuitive and easy to navigate. The XBOX LIVE features is what is going to make this xbox rock. I hope PS3 will have something like XBOX LIVE..cause if they don't, they are going to be behind in online play
I didn't see halo3 or anything halo2.5

sooo.. how did you get to do this?? :jealous:
and what is that in the pic that you have blotted out? the end of the cable and something on the side of the unit there... you don't have to answer that, lol.
always good to hear first-hand info.

I hate you!!! Awesome info and pics!
I'm dying to know how PGR3 and PDZ were.. Is there any info you can provide without breaking any NDA's?
How were the graphics for PDZ?

PGR3 was running in overscan mode (sorta) when you play it on a 4:3 SDTV. It was meant to be running in HI-DEF. The cars are sweet. It will look great when it's done...the frame rate was up and down but this version I was playing was really buggy. No MUSIC/SOUNDS.
Perfect Dark Zero was actually gorgeous...even on an SDTV. You can see all the specular lighting and so really cool effects. Pretty cool and it's 4 players split screen supported.
The wires coming out are for DEBUG. You can have VGA out but it will restrict to 480p. Halo2 did not have any improvements. It did not crash on me either but there were no improvements in framerate nor graphics quality. BUT ALL 1.0 XBOX games (BEST SELLERS ONLY) will upconvert to 720p. That's dreamy. No, Forza did not work, rainbox six 3 didn't work. I have not tried others.
You guys will like the XBOX LIVE features..voice and video. You can have custom themes applied to the BG of the dashboard...so you can customize it to your own likings. The controller does look "plain" but if you thought the SType controller was better, this controller is > all the controllers period. It's really comfortable...but the big basketball fucks who have banana hands will say it's too small.
To me it felt very comfortable.
The unit has 2 usb in the front, THE RING OF THE POWER BUTTON will glow RED for each controller that is connected. So imagine a 360 pie, and it's split into 4 equal sections..each lighting up RED when the controller is connected. The round xbox button on the controller allows you to pull up the dashboard menu at will and it allows you to power on and off the machine without walking up to the xbox360 to do it from the main power switch.
The power brick, get this, is fuckin' HUGE. I shit you not, I thought my girls Dell XPS power supply was big, it was TWICE AS LONG AND TWICE AS THICK (almost). CRAZY if they actually ship that shit. There's ethernet jack in back as well as a new A/V output plug adapter (you can't use your own HD video pack, etc..).
You can attach a hub and connect multiple devices. I did not try wireless out because there wasn't one available at the time. You can connect your psp, portable mp3 player, etc..to the xbox360 and it'll allow you to view images, files, and music. When you view photos, you can play music while it actually moves in and out of images, making a slideshow effect.
I totally forgot to try out DVD movies but I have tried out mp3 discs. If you burn mp3 songs on the disc, it will play them directly. You get a light show when you play music. It will play videos..but it will not play .mp4 format. Other video formats are wmv.
The machine is pretty decent size, will stand upright just fine on carpet without any accessory help. I have a few more pics to post up...oh, last thing...YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO FORK OVER $$$ FOR AN HDTV TO DO THIS MACHINE JUSTICE. The next gen gaming has arrived and it sure looks like crap on an SDTV. I think I will have to buy an HDTV since this xbox360 is designed for HDTV .

AGain, this machine is prototype machine. AND THESE PICTURES ARE ALREADY WHAT YOU SEE RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC ANYWAY. I can't give you game screen shots since that would be a big no-no. As for the UI, all I have to say are praises. Don't ask me where I got the machine because I can't and won't tell you anyway. Just thought I'd help MS out by making you fuckers drool :-) It's a great machine and I'm anxiously waiting to get one myself. So save your cash and get it when it comes out. They worked hard on this new xbox and believe me when I tell you the next generation has arrived. MUST...BUY...H..D......T.V..

As I mentioned, thanks for the info. You have made myself and I'm sure others very happy. I'm one of those that eats up any new scraps of info I can find on the system.
I can't wait until November. Luckily, I have an HDTV already so I can play the games the way they were meant to be played.
