Like I said before I am currently on my 3rd ps3 in a little over 2 years. It really was under 2 years. The first one died within 6 months. It was from the very ps3 run. The second was either from the first or 2nd run. Hope my new one works out because it's the latest version.

Did you try putting the 40GB drive into your broken PS3?

yes i did, the same thing happened.

i also tried booting up the 40gb ps3 with no HD in it, and it actually boots up and shows a message on the screen. so i tried booting the 60gb with no HD, just did the usual beep and then flashing red light.

it is for certain i need to send it to sony, im just trying to tackle the task of backing up my stuff.

Same thing meaning it needs to be formatted, or beep and flashing read light?

Yup... You definately need to send it in to Sony then...

It sucks that the new unit isn't reading your old HD... I wonder if this is because of hardware differences or if your HD got corrupted. I am guessing the latter...

well there is a few gamestops nearby that have a used 60gb instock, so i am going to return this 40gb tomorrow and then get the 60gb. if that dont work then im just gonna send the bastard to sony.

i was thinking about the 60gb, but they fetch a pretty big premium over any of the ps3s out there.

It sounds like there's 2 problems. The 60GB got screwed up. The 60GB also got screwed up. Maybe you'll get an 80GB at least.

J/K, I know what you meant... The 60GB Model PS3 got screwed up, and the 60GB Hard Drive also got screwed up.

I would rather have the 60GB model than the 80GB...

So I called around and none of the gamestops nearby have a 60gb ps3 in stock even thou the website says so. Guess I will return the 40gb and send out the 60gb tomorrow ;(

Guess this just means I'll have to replay all my games hahaha. At least this time for mgs4 I can get most of the goodies in the first run

Well, hopefully, the HD is still ok, and Sony can put it back in the repaired, or refurbed unit and your savegames will still be there...

i had to do that myself. But at that point I just ended up trading in most of the games that I had played the shit out of. I just couldn't bring myself to spend all those hours again just trying to get back to where I was. I suggest with the new one, every week back it up on a flash drive.

i didnt bother, i figured if it was going to work it would only be with the 60gb because it has the exact same hardware.

besides the 80gb was with software BC, not hardware.

If you are still in the 1yr period and have more than 90 days left on the warranty, you'll get that much warranty. But if you only had like a month left, then you get 90 days warranty.

That's what I wanted to know. So it wasn't your original unit you got back

Interesting. They still have 60GB's. I wonder if I ever have to send back my 40 that they could hook it up. Doubt it.

well its a refurbished unit, so it was previously broken.

im assuming that my old ps3 will be fixed and then sent to someone later on.

btw my 60gb ps3 looks brand new, not a scratch or a scuff mark on it

Quick Reply: could it be?? i think my ps3 died...
