Yep, you can make the case of it being equivalent based on price and features. Though, I would hurry up and do it now as quantities are limited and they are being discontinued.

Yes, I am curious too.

Your extended warranty expired on Nov 18, and I would think that a new PS3 with no BC > broken PS3.

Did you ever try installing the HD in a PC to see if it recognized? Also, have you tried putting in a new HD to see if it recognizes?

I have my old 20GB HD (upgraded my PS3 to a 250GB) if you want it.

yea, what happened, mizouse?

no BC > no ps3.

if you need BC that badly, you could always sell the one without BC and get a new one.

All this talk about backward compatibility leads me to ask just how much better was the old 60GB in comparison to the current 80GB?

I know the 60s actually have the PS2 processor built in but how does the 80GB perform with the PS2 software emulation in comparison to the real deal built in PS2 processor featured in the 60GB?

the new ones cant play ps2 games at all.

and i couldnt get my ps3 out in time because i was going on my trip, plus with walmart i had to deal with a 3rd party company that would just take my ps3 and give me a refurb, and my mgs4 game is stuck in it.

ohh well, i am in no hurry to fix it since i have a 360

If you open it, you can get your game out very easily

Check out this guide. If anything, its good for a laugh or 2 lol

use this video to get your blu ray drive apart so you can get that game out

This might be a dumb question, but have you tried turning on the switch in the back (so the red light is on in front), and pressing the PS button on the controller?

as you see mine goes directly to the flashing red light after flipping the switch on the power supply, every video i have seen goes to a solid red light and then when they press the power button goes green to yellow to flashing red etc etc.

Just watched your video. Did a search on Google, and here is what I found:

http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=...+red+light+fix

The PS3 is not immune to having problems, and a common problem is when the PS3 beeps 3 times with a blinking red light.

If you have this problem, you will be advised to call Sony for service... and if you're out of warranty it's gonna cost you over $150 bucks. But what does it mean?

Well, the PS3 3 Beep and blinking red light problem indicates a problem with the hard drive, and it can be cause by one of two things: Either your PS3 hard drive connection has become loose, or the drive went dead altogether.

A quick fix for this PS3 beeping 3 times problem, is to re-seat the hard drive. Physically remove and reinstall the hard drive. If you are still having this problem, then you are going to need to get yourself a new hard drive.

Replacing the hard drive is not complicated at all - and you can even get yourself a 160GB drive for cheaper than you spend to send your PS3 to Sony for repair.
http://ps3-problems.blogspot.com/

edit: Like I mentioned earlier, I have my old 20Gb if you want it. Or better yet, just buy a big ass drive!

if i were to take out the hard drive would the system boot up?

ive taken out the HD and reinstalled it and whatnot, i guess ill see if my computer can read the drive first.

btw, thanks, i guess i have poor search skills cause ive searched for ages and didnt find anything like that.

If the HD is unformatted, the PS3 will format it automatically (it will prompt you first).

Once formatted, some info will already be there like your PSN info etc, but there will be no data like game saves, DLC, etc.

If you put the HD in your computer, I don't think it will read as the drive is formatted to a proprietary Sony format.

Yes... see my post above yours.

You can try formatting the drive in Windows, which will delete all data, then try putting it back in your PS3 and see if it recognizes it and formats it back to PS3.

i think ill just get a larger hard drive since a 250gb HD is what 80bux?

that way if it doesnt work i dont end up losing my save games.

Do they make 1TB laptop drives yet? How cool would it be if someone stuck a solid state drive in their PS3?

Games would load like lightening

That sux. Glad you got it before one of the neighbors did. Would you have an idea who took it if it did end up missing?

nope, butthe neighborhood i live in right now is ok, so i dont really have much to worry about.

now if it was back in college then yea i should be scared, back when i was camping out for my ps3 i had ordered some computer parts from newegg that was supposed to arrive after i would have gotten back. but being how riverside is really close to the city of industry where they ship from, it came pretty much the next day and they dumped about $1000 in computer parts on the door of my apartment.

theres really no need for an SSD. specially not for a PS3. i just got me a seagate (which is the same brand sony uses for their PS3) 500GB HDD for 115 bucks shipped. i wouldnt hold my breath for a 1tb 2.5" drive since the 500GB is fairly new.
