could it be?? i think my ps3 died...
I personally don't think thats possible...
If the HD doesn't work in your PS3, it probably doesn't work in another... If that is your problem of course...
Do you have to pay Sony for the repair?

How much do you have to pay? If it is $150, I would just buy a SATA laptop HD, as it will be cheaper, plus you will have more capacity.
The actual installation of the drive is super easy. Remove a cover, pull the drive, swap new drive into bracket, insert drive, close cover.
When starting the system, it will automatically detect that the HD is unformatted, and will do so after you confirm.
Offer is still available for my old 20GB HD if you want it. Just PM me your address.
I believe that Blockbuster does indeed rent out systems.

yea im thinking about doing that, damn me for not knowing any in the bay area with a ps3.
do you guys know anything about rent-a-center? not sure if its a place to rent something, or if its rent-to-own.

Rent a center is rent to own. Couldnt you just buy a external HD enclosure and a new HD, but your PS3 HD in it and put the new one in the PS3 and see if it boots up. If it doesn plug the external in and transfer data back to the new one?

i cant back up the data without using a ps3, so if its not the hard drive issue then i have no way of backing up my data.

exactly, i've been trying to find a fix online only to find a bunch of threads about how the video is fake and that everyone with the problem is an absolute liar. I'm dead serious, it's amazing.
So far I can't find a fix other then to send it to sony for $150 you'll get a refurbished. I am finding a lot of people who did get the fee waived even while out of warranty.
Is your's a 60gb?

it's misleading because you only read about problems. but i do get nervous everytime i update the firmware.
Yeah, me too... I do them anyway, as I can't access the PS Store without doing the updates.
CLpower, when I looked up Mizouse's problem, it looks like the problem is probably the Hard Drive.
If the problem is intermittent, I would recomment backing up your save game data as soon as possible.
You may want to try upgrading to a larger HD, it is super easy, just open a panel on the side (or bottom depending on how you have it standing) and remove the drive. Remove the drive from the bracket, put in the new one, and do the reverse to put it back in. The PS3 should detect the drive is not formatted, and will format it after asking confirmation that it will erase all data.
At the very least, try doing those steps just to reseat the drive. It might help.
I am extending my offer to Mizouse to you. I have a spare 20Gb (my old drive from before I upgraded). You can have it for FREE if you want it (Miz does not seem to want it). It might not be a big capacity, but at least you can test if it is the problem. You can then decide wheter you want to upgrade to a larger capacity.
If you decide to buy a drive, make sure it is a 2.5" SATA Laptop drive.

My cousin had a similar problem. It didn't work for the longest time. what he did was removed the hard drive then turn it on, it should give some thing on the screen, then turn it off and put the HD back in, turn it on and its been working fine since....
