Console decisions

It's been a long time since I last purchased a gaming console.(Gamecube) I was always a huge Fan of Nintendo. Then the PS1 game out and games like RE had me hooked!

I've been thinking about picking up a Wii since it's release but something told me not to. Although I'm sure it's a fun system, it just doesn't appeal to me.

Being that I've been out of the world of gaming, I need a little help deciding on the three consoles...I'm in the market for a Blu-Ray player and at this point I'm leaning toward the PS3 because the reviews i've read out there make the PS3 Blu-ray feature the clear choice in that regard.

With RE-5 looming out there, the Wii doesn't look like an option btw.

if you're shopping around for a Blu Ray at the same time, then yeah... I think you've answered your own question... but just so you know... I own both PS3 AND 360, and the PS3 basically just collects dust... I DO use it for watching Blu Ray movies tho

***I just bought a game for the PS3 for the first time in about a year, it's SoCom: confrontation, an online game only...and it's not working

Why because of lack of good games?

Same with me, I only got one game for the PS3, :-(. The 360 def. get more play time than it. Got 5 games for it now. (Used to be loaded with game for the 360, but the economy[got laid off] forced me to sell most of them, lol)

So, because of said Blue-ray, the PS3 is def. the console for you!

Since you have ruled out Nintendo and you do not seem to have any particular exclusive titles that you must keep up with, I'd say get the 360. Almost every game coming out is on both consoles, and you will not miss the PS3 exclusives unless you played them on the PS2. RE5 will be on both systems, so you are good there.

But, if you must have a BR player, the obvious answer is PS3. Right now, there are only 2 games that I am waiting for before even thinking of getting a PS3: God of War 3 and Killzone 2. Once those come out, I may have to pick one up. I was a huge MGS fan, and that game didn't even make me get a PS3.

i was pretty much in the same position as you.

i was out of the gaming world...the last console i owned was the super nintendo. and it had been years since i last played my friend's xbox.

however, since i wanted a blu-ray player, it was an easy decision for me.

i haven't looked back since. i'm not a hardcore gamer. i own only 4 games (COD4, MGS4, euro2008, and GT5). i haven't played much lately, but i use the ps3 mostly for movies now.

so i'd recommend the ps3 and planet earth (blu-ray).

good luck.

yes and no... I bought the 360 waaaaaaaay before PS3 and all my friends were on the 360 Live. Most games nowadays will be on both platforms (with the exception of games like MGS4/Socom-PS3 only, Halo/Gears of War 1 & 2 on 360 only), but every game that came out on both platforms I just went with the 360 version. And also what I Go To Costco said.... 360Live is simply better IMO when it comes to live gaming... even though I pay $7/month (vs free on PS3), it's pennies a day... considering how much I play? It's the cheapest entertainment.

But since you're starting from scratch... if you're also looking for a Blu Ray player... then go with the PS3

I chose the X360 and am very happy with my decision. Once Sony drops the price of the PS3, I'll scoop it up as a Blu-Ray player...

I have both 360 and PS3 and I only really use the PS3 for blue ray. X box live really made the decision for me, you actually play the games after you beat them.

I think I'm in the same boat ... Costco has a Sony Blu-ray player (BX1 which is the same as the S350) for $280 ... the PS3 is another $100 more... XBox360 doesn't have a BD player attachment (yet) ... I like the Wii (since I'm not a hardcore gamer).

Nevermind. Maybe I'll just buy the BX1 and call it a day. I wanted to convince the wife the PS3 is an affordable Blu-Ray player with an added bonus -- it can play games! (And I know the firmware will be updated ... the same can't be said for the BX1 or whenever Sony no longer feels like updating capabilities of their dedicated BD players)
