CoD2
CoD2
Just an FYI for those of you who just got CoD2 or will be soon: stick with it.
There's three campaigns in the game. The Russians, then the British, then the Americans. At first when I was playing the Russians, I was like "WTF, this is sort of fun but pretty lame." The British Campaign picked things up by being moderately entertaining just because it was somewhat more challenging. I was still thinking to myself though "I thought this game was supposed to be super intense?" Well...that's the American campaign. IMO, it brings WWII firefights to a whole new level from anything I've ever experienced.
Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone starts playing CoD2 and thinking it's
. The "reward" is there, you just have to get to it.

FYI - I managed to capture a pretty cool gameplay video but I have nowhere to host it at the moment. Anyone willing? It's 31MB.

You're correct Srika, this was captured from the PC version. I was running at 640x480 for the capture so there's definitely more graphics resolution to be had than this clip shows. I normally run at 1024x768x32/85Hz/4xAA and it runs very smooth on my system (Athlon 64 3400+, 6800GT).
I just finished the Caen missions (American I think)...I like the environments more than CoD1. CoD lost my interest once I was indoors during the British campaign (i think it was the stealth/infiltration part).
the american part where you rush the cliffs in CoD2 is great, but it just seems like a lot of the same ol "rush this area and clear it out" "guard this area and hold it"
I'd give CoD1 an 8/10
I'd give CoD2 a 7.5/10.

Is CoD2 worth buying? Just finished f.e.a.r. and looking for a new way to waste my life. Have CS_Source but not much fun if you dont know anyone else who plays. Haven't tried FarCry, but that looks pretty fun. Looking for something thats worth playing both offline and on.
Farcry is a great game. The online play kind of sucks because you cant really hide.
COD2 is a GREAT game. The best part of COD2 IMO is the online play. I beat COD2 on the second to hardest level. Talk about hard. You gotta be pretty good to beat it at that level.
The only thing that i hate about the hardest level, is that the AI tends to cheat a little bit. Grenades that just kill you and no one around you. There could be 30 people in a group that includes you and an guy on an MG will just mow you down but noone else around you...
BTW i just started playing CS source. Great game.

I think the degree to which you'd enjoy CoD2 depends on what you like in a FPS. On paper I really don't think CoD2 has much going for it. IMO, there really isn't anything new or unique in terms of technology or gameplay. On the other hand, CoD2 does have two things going for it.
First, in the British and American campaigns, CoD2 usually makes you feel like you're part of larger conflicts. There tends to be more people involved than your average FPS. When you encounter the Germans, you're not going to run up against 5-10 of them. You're going to encounter 15-30 of them, sometimes more. The force you're fighting with is correspondingly larger as well.
Second, the firefights are can be really intense. At least in my book. Remember the scene in the original Die Hard when Hans and his henchman just let loose and shot out the glass in the server room? There were a couple of times playing CoD2 where I felt like Bruce Willis in that scene (curling up into a ball and shouting "Jesus Christ!") CoD2 is the only game I've ever played that's made me feel that way.
Summary: If you're looking to go "Oh wow" at new graphics technology or novel gameplay devices, then CoD2 probably isn't for you. If you like the idea of feeling that you're "doing your part" in some intense fighting, then you may enjoy it.
Note: Stuff above is based only on my single player experience. Haven't tried multiplayer.

Mulitplayer is awesome in that game. It will suck you in. I play online like every night!
You got Xfire? give me your name and will meet up sometime!
Im gonna rant about COD real quick.
There is a great lack of vehicle missions. They promiced more and didnt deliver. made me mad.
The game is ALOT like the first one, just better graphics and more people.
I cant wait for the expansion to come out.
the AI cheats.
I think thats all i got.
