Just got it today, will give a review this weekend.. from what I've heard, it is MORE addictive than Civ 2.

I'm going to pick it up as soon as I have some time. The original Civilization is my all-time favorite game.

Ok, in short, Civ IV is MORE addictive than Civ II at this point. Even though its slower paced, it has all the GOOD features I liked in Civ III without the stupidity. Combat has been improved as well.

Yep, I just picked up AOE III a few days ago and I've been playing that online with most of my free time.

Civ has always been a fun game for me and the wifey to sit and play. We played a little tonight and will probably pick up again on Saturday.
.
I'm lucky - it's the only computer game she likes to play.

So I ended up playing until 3 AM last night and now I feel like I'm about to pass out at work. I particularly like some of the new features (religion adds a new dimension as does the "great people" feature).

I'm currently playing a slow game (I've always wanted that feature) because I enjoy taking my time.

I can't wait to get home tonight.

No. But Civ IV is a RAM hog. People with 512 megs had CTD issues, but once upgraded to 1 GIG, it went away. Go figure.

I pretty much have the same setup minus the graphics card. Try updating the video drivers.

I did that....way ahead of you. Went on all of the major CIV forums and apparently there are tons and tons of people having issues with this game.....guess I wait for a patch.

I have AOE III & CIV IV...no probs playing either one. I don't really like AOEIII...in fact, I still prefer AOE II. CIV IV is growing on me...haven't played since CIV II.

I had Civ IV in hand tonight at the store but put it back at the last minute. I have too much going on this weekend that i cant afford to put off. As a long time and borderline obsessive fan of Civ, i know if I buy it at the wrong time, I'm screwed.

I've played hundreds of hours on each of the 4 editions. Starting back in 94 with Civ 1 on my 486. I played a couple stretches of 36 hours at a time on this game. I disgust myself

Long story short, i think my plate should be clear by mid next week. Then Ill take the plung and lock myself in a room for a weekend and play

Have you tried the civ forums?
They have various suggestions, like particular video drivers,
running it in windows mode, etc.

My laptop cant handle this game. I have a P4 1.5ghz and it takes like 2-4 minutes for the AI turn and it freezes on every scene change.

I reduced the resolution and minimized the features which seemed to help until sattelite. It was all over after that. Sometimes up to five minutes between turns. Finally, as my army was just about ready to mount and destroy an entire continent I got the blue screen of death...I hadnt saved in like 5 hours either

Anyone have any ideas on how to minimize features more than I have so this shit will run a little better?

get more memory

also, the game autosaves quite frequently, so you should be able to recover your game.

Yup, the three big ones, but after trying everything, no dice. It's ok though, I'll just hold out for a patch....I'm not sweating it like a lot of people on those forums seem to be.

Get the patch.

There's also a hacked DLL file that fixes the memory leak problems.
