building a sub gaming computer.. critiques?

Trying not to spend more than 600 dollars building a sub gaming computer, and its for my lil bro since he's going off to college.. was wondering if you guys could critique on these specs for me

AMD ATHLON 64 X2 5200+

SEAGATE 250GB ST3250410AS SATA2 16MB 7200RPM

GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 nVIDIA GeForce 6100 CHIPSET

OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB KIT

SEAGATE 250GB ST3250410AS SATA2 16MB 7200RPM

ANTEC SONATA III

XFX GEFORCE 8600 GT 256MB PCI EXPRESS DDR3 620MHZ DUAL DVI

Dunno about the video card though, whether to go with the 8600gt, 7900gs, or x1950... and yea i plan to build the comp by next week so any quick input would be helpful =]

oh and im ordering parts from mwave if that matters.. cuz mwave is down the street from my house...

I will help you first thing tomorrow morning, so if you can try to wait until noon tomorrow I will definitely have a system and price for what I think you should get. I'm too tired right now, but I'll have plenty of time tomorrow during work

I'll try to have something to you by lunch.. apparently I actually have some work to do today. Hopefully other people can chime in with their opinions until then.

How long do you plan on keeping this computer?
Max price = $600?
Would you settle for After rebate prices? You can always find great AR deals.

I jumped on the 8500 gt bandwagon when it launched, I now think I should have just bought a 7900 gs or waited for a better mid range dx10 card. It's better than the 7600gt, but not by much.

And the mid range ati dx10 card is supposed to be a little better than the 8600gt, but I really wanted linux driver support.

listing price with tower is about 620.
Yea trying to keep it around 600 or so, he plans to keep it a while.. few years. Its mostly for college for my lil bro.
Not really going Core 2 Duo cuz of the prices, but dunno..

Yea after rebate deals are fine also. Just can't seem to make up my mind on what to get him and since im pretty out of the whole computer deal lately, my knowldge.. sucks

That is exactly what I did. I saved about $150 on my whole system because of rebates, and had no problem receiving payment for any of them. I think I had 4-5 rebates in total too.

Thats where I got it from. For that price too.. I can run wow at 60 fps. Except when i get into a large town, I get a lot of dips. But I think that may because I am running vista with only 1gig of ram.
