Aux power input?

This isnt really gaming but i didnt know where to put it. Its just a simple question. Ok so I found some old logitech speakers, part of a 5.1 system. THe sub died on me but I knew the speakers worked great. Ok so I decided to use them with my ipod. I have a RCA to Aux input converter thing. So I plug the speakers in the RCA ports and I use an Aux cable to plug my ipod in and the speakers work great! They put out good volume as well and the base is decent even though they are satellite speakers. But then I realized something. Where is the power comming from? THe speakers need power to operate, so is the power comming from my ipod? Through the Aux cable to teh speakers? Wierd. Lol kinda long read for a dumb question just curious tho.

most computer speakers that i have delt will work without power but it is substantially less than with power this probably excludes subs. your head phones dont need power. I think power is only required for extra amplification in the compact/computer/headphone speaker design
