just wondering if anyone knows how to change the screen res in Ubuntu 7.0.4? what i mean is it won't give me the option to select 1400X900, it only goes up to 1152X848 or something.
i recently installed in on my computer and am still doing a lot of trial and error on it. any help is greatly appreciated!!

 

Meh, I gave up after I couldn't get networking going....

 

It's likely you will have to change your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and add the resolution manually

something like
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Scroll down to the section "Screen" and add 1152X848 to the lines needed,
something like

Depth 24
Modes "1152x848" "1280x1024" "1024x768"

Save it, log out, and restart the x with ctrl+alt+backspace

hopefully it will work at that point (but then again if you screw something up you will be stuck without a gui :-)

What you should do before you follow any of my advice is visit the ubuntu forums, usually if I have a problem, somebody there has had it first, and hopefully figured it out. Also the community documentation is pretty damned helpful aswell.

 

what kind of computer? What kind of vid card? I just recently got 1366x768 working for my hdtv. a new release is coming out soon too
