Age of Empires III or Civilization IV?

I have both AOE 1 & 2 and I am thinking about getting 3, BUT I've been hearing reviews that it's basically the same damn game besides better graphics, sound, etc. I think the only problem I have with AOE is that it's not really a thinking game, more combat than anything and that gets old after a while.

I've never played or seen any Civilization games but I've heard great things about them. Is this game more thinking-oriented than AOE? Could someone relate the two for me so I know how Civ IV is alike/different than AOE III?

Anything is appreciated...

AOE 3 is just like AOE 2, just better graphics. To be frank, I'm disappointed.

Civ IV however is a major improvement and is even more addictive then ever.

I own both Civ IV and AOE 3.

I'd get both...but, if I had to pick one, I'd go with Captain Commando over here and suggest Civ IV.

Oh and Civ IV is DEFINITELY a slower paced thinking person's game. Its true strategy on a grander scale. Picking your technologies, religion, foreign and domestic policy.. etc etc.

Expect to lose all meaning of time once you play it...You start and it seems like a blink of an eye later, it's nearly dawn.

Thanks guys,
I think you swayed my decision towards Civ IV. After buying AOE 2 and getting tired of it so fast I think I need a gaming change, and I want more of a mentally challenging game. So Civ IV it is

Thanks again
