3D Realms has shut down.

It seems the company that made Duke Nukem (and Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein 3D) has shut down. Looks like it happened pretty suddenly.

So I guess Duke Nukem 4 is definitely not coming out now.

Man I wasted so much of my childhood playing Duke Nukem 3D. Of course, all I had were the shareware levels for the longest of time. But then again, the shareware levels had the strippers and that was all you needed. My first FPS was Wolf 3D.

Actually, Redneck Rampage used on the Build engine, but it wasn't made by 3D Realms.

They did make Rise of the Triad though. That was one bloody game. And Max Payne.

I guess they've been coasting on these hits for the past 3 years. Their last published game was Prey in 1996.

Yep, you're right about Redneck Rampage.. i bought it as a "pack" with Shadow Warrior back in '97 so I just assumed they were both made by 3d Realms. Its been a while

Isn't commander keen idsoft?

I think I even remember a secret level in doom II (the secret wolfenstein level) where you end the level by killing keen.

id developed Commander Keen

Apogee aka 3d Realms published it.

The 80's and 90's had a lot of overlap when it came to companies like that.

Tom Hall was the creator and designer of almost all the games (except that awful gameboy conversion)
