Lol.
My one complaint with the game is that the Alien is always on your ass. I'd like it a little better if he disappeared for a couple minutes a time to make it build a little suspense and make you develop a short "comfort zone", just when you think you're okay he comes a knockin'. As of right now, you maybe have 30 seconds to a minute to get something done before he comes right back.

THANK YOU for suggesting this game. Had you not it would have taken me a long time to get to it if I managed to at all.
I put down Destiny to pick this up and WOW... WOOOOOW.
I haven't really been on edge in a game like this since I was younger playing Doom.
I finally got the radar and this game is really impressing me without much Alien interaction yet.
Right before reaching the radar I ran an experiment to test how different the game can go giving different game play.
Right after taking the station off lock down in the very beginning; probably one of the first times you get a chance to interact with the Alien outside the first cinematic.
Without giving too much of a spoiler...
First run.
Walk into the room to hear gun shots and shouting.
Sneak SLOWLY over to the edge to witness the alien taking off into a vent... almost like it was fleeing. Left me to handle the two humans. I shot at one and missed. Got an achievement. LOL Second guy opened fire and having NO health on hard; I died.
Second run.
Walk into the room to gunfire/shouting.
Walk quietly but quickly to the edge and see the Alien destroy one human while the other takes off running. Alien chases them down then escapes into a vent. Still crouched low and alone I search the two humans. Accidentally I clicked sprint instead of stand and make a bunch of noise moving towards the door. I crouch again only to hear noise continue. Turn around to the alien dropping out of a vent. I died.
Third run.
Do everything the same as the second but don't sprint ever and I got safely to the next room. Haven't seen the alien again since.

I have been able to panic survive an attack from 3 Working Joes. They walk and tend to give up easily.
That alien though, it sees you, even through glass from another room, it KNOWS you're there.
A lot of the time if I turn the corner and he's looking my way all you can do is freeze. If its dark he may move on. Most of the time he screams and you're toast.
Fun game. It has me hooked but at the same time Im afraid to unpause it.

I'm the same way. That first playthrough of yours would have left me standing there horrified.
-watches Alien kill others-
"Fuck, that could have been me. Better stay in this locker forever."
I'm taking about an hour per mission just because I'm so God damn scared to move. The last time I played, I hid in a locker, did the usual pull back and hold breath and he got me...okay, start over. I ended up back in the same place and hid in the same locker and he still got me.
It must be tainted. But I don't know where to go, there's no clear indication on the map and being forced to find an exit with the Alien around so often is nerve wracking as hell.
So that's where I stopped...haven't played in about a week.
And you're welcome for recommending it, I'm glad you're enjoying it!

You're so petrified you can't go onwards...the game's gotten into your head!

So, question: Do you KNOW which door is your exit or you're in a situation where you have no idea how to exit the room? Is it a scenario where you just make a freaking run for it?

I have no idea where to go. I entered the area by the ventilation system by dropping down into a room, now all the doors I go to are sealed. There is a ladder icon on the map where i dropped down but I didn't see it when I went into the room so I assumed it was the ladder inside the vent. So at this point I have to find the exit while he's on my ass. The hallways are long and it makes me incredibly nervous to navigate them since there is no cover and he moves like fkn Sonic the Hedgehog.

Ehh...he'll probably find you and honestly that's the last place I want to be found by him. It's dark, claustrophobic and scary.
Think of the scene in the movie when he gets Dallas.

I think there is an issue with the hold breath function. A lot of people online seem to say it's not working properly.
I too in the med bay tried to hid in a locker. He got me. Me being the way I play needed to perfect my locker hiding skills. So I attempted it again and again and still can't figure out how to hold your breath properly.
You have to hold breath then lean back. Aim to hold back on the stick to lean.
I do both before and during the prompt only to be killed each time. Basically I don't hide in lockers anymore. Under tables and using the legs to break the line of sight is my safe place. He gets accustomed to noise makers flares and lockers but tables are errwhere!
And I think I may be scarred for life from the mini lockers. I was in the small cabinet and he was in the room then silence. I waited like 10 seconds before pulling my radar out. It immediately goes haywire. The alien was ON TOP of the cabinet just chillin gargoyle style. I died.

I think it may have a problem too. Hopefully it's patched soon.
Holy fawk. The AI is uber-tuned for this game for the Xenomorph!
It just camped out waiting for you to come out of your hiding place? Fark.
So, I dunno...given the devs have made a game like this, there must be something you guys can do to prevent capture. What would you do in this scenario outside of holding your breath in a locker?

Well, if he's near your hiding place, there isn't much you can do. You can't even craft items in the locker.
So really, it's just wait it out. But if you're under a table, I think you can throw something like a flare or noisemaker.
There is an achievement for not dying at all in the campaign. Good luck to the soul who goes for that.

This is not like back in my 8-bit or 16-bit gaming days where I can finish a game without a death (i.e. Contra, Mega Man II, or SMB).
Youtube search Alien Isolation dodging. I cant pull the video here at work but there are two. I watched the longer one I believe that consists of some flame thrower action. Basically the alien will be on this dude and he'll spray the alien with fire, the alien with turn and run.
He uses that chances to run himself timing it right so he hides once the alien is on the hunt again. He starts moving slowly and when the alien sees him sprays him again and takes off.
I dont think I could handle that. hahahaha Mini heart attack after mini heart attack.
My favorite thing is coming in contact with humans now. I'm a pacifist around them but not around to draw their fire then hide and let the alien feed then jump back into the vents.
Last night the alien simply wouldnt show up while I was hiding from the looters searching for me. Fashioned myself a pipebomb and holy crap was that satisfying. Two bird with one bomb. I would have rather not done that but it was a necessary evil when they are searching with guns drawn.

I try to avoid closed hiding spots now. Under tables and behind luggage/boxes works very well. As Undying said, you can throw noisemakers from there if he gets too close but also breathing has no effect under a table... only in lockers/cabinets. Maybe they did that to make lockers less appealing.

Exactly like in real life, I suppose. No other choice.
I remember how my buddies and I all had said the AvP PC game from 1999 was a rite of manhood.

Guise!! I got a little further last night!
I figured out there was a locked door that I needed to put a keycard through.
And after doing that I was introduced to humans trying to kill me.
They made a little too much noise and omg...they really dramatize other people being killed.
"Oh my God, it's here, no please...I don't want to die." -BANG!- -loud shrieks from Alien followed by sounds of a body being ripped apart-
-I shit in the locker I'm hiding in-
So yeah, I got the thing I needed for a certain person and found another new area and stopped there. I'm extremely hesitant to advance in this room because there is literally NOTHING to hide in and cover is minimal at best. I remember watching videos before the game came out and I'm pretty sure the Working Joes are going to murder the shit out of.

I stepped away from DESTINY at least until my friends catch up with lvl 27 and the expansion comes out.
One buddy just hit 27. Two more need to get there. Once the expansion is out as well it'll breath some new life into the game.
This game has really got me hooked. I dont want it to end.
Some of the stuff that gets me shouting out loud doesn't even involve the Alien.
I put Alien in caps now because of the respect I hold for that far superior organism.
If it were as creative as a Riley it would definitely be OP even for the Predator.
I can only imagine if they introduced the Predator in a later game or even DLC. Id prefer a game to center around a new AI set up for it. But holy crap it would just cloak instead of hiding in vents.
Last night I was showing my friend the game and how the Alien AI works. I ran around in a hallway then into a room. When I heard loud banging I went under a desk that had only one side open.
The Alien circled the desk over and over, multiple times stopping for at most 20 seconds. Seemed like she was waiting for me to leave my spectacular hiding spot.
Different desk make for different cover scenarios.
For example:
Normal desk no backing amateur level hiding.
Desk with backing average level hiding.
L-shaped receptionist desk expert level hiding.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but you can hack systems to engage/disengage ventilation, sprinklers, lights, alarms, locks, etc. All to help evade danger.
I love the save points. They have an eerie beeping to them. But a lot of the time that beeping becomes a beacon to safety. To will hear that beeping and sudden get the courage you need to leave that awesome hiding spot you've been practicing yoga in.

The thing with the Predator (Yautja) is that their cloaking has no effect on the Xenomorphs...those things "see" both humans and Yautja with no issues.
For the Hunters, they need to adjust their masks visual frequencies to detect humans and aliens...for humans, it's infrared. For the Xenomorphs, it's EM field, I believe.
But, yeah...the possibilities are endless. I'll say this...having played the FPS games and the campaigns as all three species, playing as the Yautja had the least suspense even if you were still vulnerable to the Xenomorph...I suppose, if the creature lost all its "toys"...that may be interesting...
Don't get me wrong...nothing horrid about going through a game as a walking tank with all those gadgets.

The Xenomorph has intelligence but it is still more in the animal-like tier...the Yautja...it can reason and use process of elimination. You'd be toast.

As they say: silly humans.

It would have moments where it just goes silent...and then, the way they composed it...would have an eerie and quiet ambient sound at some of the most intense moments...or just flat out silence.
Bar none, the most suspenseful game I've played to-date. Made my experiences with the Resident Evil games and Doom III seem like a walk in the park to be honest.
We passed that AvP game around amongst our buddies and everyone said they pissed the pants so many times throughout the game for the Marine campaign.
Anyhow, enough about that game. I'm probably going to see if I can get a demo of this going on the PS4 (is it available?) and see if I can play it. I said to Undying Dreams earlier that on consoles, FPS do make me extremely dizzy which is why I have "retired" from this genre...On the PC, less of an issue. So, maybe when I get an updated rig, I'll pick up the game then.

By then, I would've learned from your mistakes.

And survive a few minutes longer.

Yummy, you'll love the soundtrack in this game, quiet when it needs to be, suspenseful and heart pumping when it needs to be. And a lot of the sound effects and music is directly from the 1979 movie, through in-movie sounds to sounds that never got into the movie, it's quite impressive and really adds to the Alien universe.
Haven't been able to sit infront of the console lately. Did once a few days ago but played Destiny with some friends instead of Alien. Im afraid I may not get much of any game time before Far Cry comes out... then Alien will be forgotten about.
It is a great game however and I own it so I'll pick it back up once Far Cry is over and then the Destiny DLC is old.
