E3 should have some details but if you downloaded the Green Day: Rock Band demo you saw this screenshot:

That's right 3 harmonies and a KEYBOARD/KEYTAR. Rumors are that it's a keytar as per:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...w-pro-mode.ars
Harmonix has announced that Rock Band 1 (sans the 3 that weren't exportable to RB2), Rock Band 2, Green Day:Rock Band, and all DLC will be exportable to Rock Band 3 in case you were wondering. Better get a new hard drive. Release date is rumored before Xmas. Hopefully 10.10.10 since Beatles was 9.9.09.

I have been idle on the rock band front for a while, but wow, the feature set is jaw dropping!
Charted cymbals for drums finally!
25 key keyboard!
6 string guitar!
The music genre has been stale, but Rock band 3 has more new features than the last two year's worth of music games COMBINED. Wow.
(oh, and could 'power gig''s drum set be any more retarded? )

I can already see they fixed every major complaint I had about rock band 2:
1) one person controls the menus, so you don't have people 'aborting' songs by banging on the drums
2) You can rank songs so songs you hate don't show up on mystery setlists
3) you can save custom playlists
I am so jacked up for this game.

Oh man, more win:
DS: That’s true. The Rock Band 2 cymbals, all that stuff is super-functional right out of the gate. And I’ll add that almost our entire legacy catalog is already authored for cymbals. With keys and Pro guitar, the legacy stuff doesn’t support Rock Band Pro, but Rock Band Pro supports legacy songs for drums.
charted cymbals for existing DLC!!! yeah!!!
Looks like I'll finally have to get a new drum kit. (i'm still using RB1 + goodwoods)

Rock Band 3 gets 'Pro' mode, real guitar hybrid controller and keytar revealed -- Devo be praised
Posted Jun 11th 2010 12:44AM by Ross Miller
Wrap your head around this one: a 150-button guitar peripheral. That's for the pro version of Rock Band 3, whose goal is to actually turn the controllers into something more fitting of actual musicianship in a separate, more advanced "Pro" mode (the core game is still intact for those want it). First up is the aforementioned two-octave keyboard / keytar, whose difficulty goes from pressing within one of five ranges to actual dead-on notes. For drums, the three cymbals can now actually function as separate notes, sharing three lanes but given their own shape to know which to hit. Guitar, however, is a whole new beast. A $150 Fender Mustang pro (pictured up top) boasts 17 frets and 6 strings of accurate placement for a total of 102 buttons, and six nylon strings that must be plucked individually. Of course, if that hits the uncanny valley of plastic peripherals too closely, there's a Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster that'll be coming out that can actually be used as a real guitar or a Pro model. Vocal melodies from Beatles Rock Band carry over here. No concrete release date; head on over to new Joystiq for the preview, or if you want to see true trendsetters, watch Devo predict this game all the way from 1982 -- that video's after the break.

Sweet. Not sure if that's really possible but one thing I got frustrated with when it came to learning on an acoustic guitar at least was that it took me forever and I was too lazy to practice. When I play Rock Band it sounds awesome even though I'm really just playing a video game
no practice needed
wonder how much all the peripherals will cost now?

Unfortunately drums won't change much. As a drummer I'm very disappoint. They're adding cymbals to the RB2 kit (no new RB3 kit at this time) so cymbals will be round notes while pads will be rectangle as usual. The second plug that was inactive under the orange kick pedal plug is now open to double bass or open hi hat but that's only on pro mode. Not much of a pro mode since your snare is all the way on the left instead of in front of you. The Ion doesn't have a second plug so I don't know if it will support. The good news is that you can plug in an existing e-kit with a midi connection to a midi adapter that they sell for $40.
The only flaw I see with the Squier real guitar is that there's no lefty version. So basically us lefties gotta learn righty or go with the Mustang Pro midi guitar. But that one has buttons for the strings instead of strings and I want the real thing.
All in all I'm super geeked for this game and will get at midnight launch in line whatever. Probably will get the keyboard at launch.

I don't believe double bass/open hi-hat are pro mode only, but then again, neither one does much. It's still the same song, you just have the option of using two pedals.
The hi-hat is only during 'fills' so I don't see why they'd make it just for pro mode.
I play classical guitar, and it's hard to resist getting the squier at launch.
Maybe the keyboard, not sure.

Pro Guitar is just going to be brutal to sightread.

It was a little odd at first with the big ass buttons, but I thought there was a huge advantage in playing real guitar first.
Just general finger dexterity, including use of the pinky, and shifting from first position to second position/3rd position was second nature. (and traumatic to anyone else).

Okay, for the 3 (?) people who care about this game, ha ha:
I'm sure you've already seen the set list, but:

And I can't even describe how jacked up I am to play Freebird on Pro Drums / Pro Guitar.

Wow, from what I can tell of the only 30 or so songs that I know, the setlist is pretty good and quite diverse. Maybe I'll actually learn how to play the guitar now
my problem with learning how to play a real guitar was that it was boring as fuck. I grew up with video games and pressing some buttons and flicking a control stick and instantly "making music" was what I was used to. I didn't have the patience to practice for hours and taking weeks or months to actually get good. I knew that real guitar was much different, which is why I stayed away from it for so long.
hopefully that'll all change with RB3

Yeah I was thinking about posting this too :p. Anyways, give some of the songs you don't recognize a listen and I guarantee you'll be "Ohhh that song". The link Frank provided has all the songs in a player.
Also if you pre-order through Game Stop you get a code to download for free New Order's "Blue Monday," "Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads, and Deftones' "My Own Summer."
