I would get it if I didn't have a cartload of games to finish and play still.

I'm buying it tomorrow. I have a cartload of games to finish as well, but they will just have to wait.
I was gonna buy Alan Wake tomorrow, but ultimately chose RDR. Alan Wake will be bought later when the price drops.

I bought it today and have been playing it for the last two hours.
It starts off kind of slow but gets better as you progress. I can already tell this will be a huge time waster. Their tutorial system isn't the best, as they don't pause to let you read it. For instance, on your first duel, it will tell you what to do while you are dueling. Doesn't help much having to read and figure it out at the same time. I ended up just pressing some buttons and won somehow haha.
Great atmosphere and gameplay so far! Can't wait to get deeper into the game.

Sorry to double post but it seems I have received a pre-order copy of RDR although I didn't pre-order.
In the case there is a code to get the War Horse, but it seems R*'s validation servers are offline. Anyone else have this problem?

I got to play a little last night and liked it.
It's got the gameplay mechanics of GTA IV, the barren and desolate feel of Fallout 3, and reminds me of the show Deadwood.
A little bit of a learning curve, but still had some initial fun.

I'm stoked for the game...but the gameplay and mechanics of GTA are sorta turning me off.
I personally so not like the controls or mechanics or the GTA series...so I bummed this "penultimate" western might just not be for me.

Its a legitimate reason to not like a game, just shitty that it has to be this game in particular.
Not just not made by IW, but is made by Treyarch no less! Their previous games seem rather mediocre in my oppinion.

Rockstar Games will deliver a free, online cooperative mission pack in June for its Western themed open-world title Red Dead Redemption.
Outlaws to the End -- which will be available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live -- will feature six multiplayer missions hosting up to four players.
Outlaws will represent the first of three downloadable content packs planned for the game, according to a statement from Rockstar.
Here are descriptions from Rockstar of some of the missions players will encounter:
"Walton's Gold" -- Walton's Gang have taken control of a mining camp rich with gold. Fight through the camp and load your mine cart with as much gold as you can carry and get out as fast as you can - Walton's boys have rigged the place to blow.
"The River" -- Ride a raft down river, taking out rebel encampments along the way until you reach the rebel stronghold of Nosalida and a final epic battle for the town's massive weapons caches. Watch out for Gatling gun-equipped enemy rafts.
"Ammunition" -- The Mexican Army has the town of Tesoro Azul under siege. Storm the gates under heavy cannon, Gatling gun and sniper fire to destroy the Mexican artillery placements.

Wow, this game is huge. I always seemed to know where gta games were going and how far I was along in them without checking. I thought this game ended twice already.
The strangest thing is that I was kind of sad when the horse I broke on one of the first missions was randomly killed by a cougar in the mountains.

Like stated before, I somehow got the war horse, so I don't have to worry if he dies. At the same time I think having it takes away from the game. I started with one of the best horses in the game. No way to move up!
I love the size of this game though. So much to do! We should form an AZine posse or something. Every time I play online I get spawn killed like crazy by some random jerk gang.
Anyone in? My gamertag is Lightus.

I
Finally got around to playing this and loved every minute of it. It took me about 22 hours.
I usually have a very short attention span and end up not finishing games, but this one was fantastic. I found myself wondering the woods, searching for things for hours before realizing what I was doing. The story is also amazing. Great set up for a sequal.

I bought it when it first came out. Even though it is a great game it just couldnt hold my attention so I traded it in to get Medal of Honor to hold me over til Black Ops came out.

LOL the greatest thing ever just happened. You know those women strangers that deceive you by saying "omg halp" but around her are a bunch of criminals trying to fuck you up 3 seconds later?
After I killed the guys, I went up to the girl. She was like "omg sorryz" and gave me like $50 .. 2 seconds later, a random mountain lion comes out of nowhere and just mauls the fuck out of her mid-sentence LMAO!

I lost my shit for the next 2 minutes.![Spit](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/spit.gif)
BTW anyone try Undead Nightmare?

Bumping five threads in a row with mostly two word comments containing no punctuation is a good way to get noticed (especially on a board as slow as this one).
Word of advice, don't make random threads in an attempt to be funny.
Anyways, back on topic. Yes it does tend to get rather repetitive. I actually quit the game halfway through because I was getting tired of all the side quests. I eventually went back and beat the main plot just find out what happened. I'm happy I did, I can honestly say I did not see that ending coming.

Indeed. None of the animals are really an issue as long as you know where they are. Even the legendary animals are pretty easy. It's the cougar you didn't see behind the rock that pounces right after your flower picking animation that does it.

Anytime I ever needed to collect a pelt a would get close enough to the animal that when my character got off of his horse he was standing on the dead carcass. Then once you start to skin it, immediately saddle back up on your horse. This will skip the animation and will be much quicker and helpful in avoiding surprise animal attacks...like the cougar (plus it works with flowers too). I found out this was an actual technique in any Game Guide after I figured it out..go figure.
