Yeah, those off beat bass hits screw me up too.

Some songs are definately harder, even at easier levels than some songs at Expert. This is the same for all the instruments though.

Damn Nyko guitars. I bought 2 of them and the red fret kept getting stuck on one of them. Amazon sent me a replacement and the replacement keeps getting disconnected where I have to unplug the USB. It's not the hub since the other instruments didn't have this problem.

finally played GH: WT

I really liked a lot of their playlist, and the drums with the cymbals was really fun once you get used to it...the kick pedal suck though.

wondering if I should get this one, too....debating.

Anyone know how the standalone RB2 drums are? Supposedly they're a lot more quiet and more accurate, right? I remember playing the RB2 drums briefly at Circuit City but, those are demo units and the people I know with RB2 kept their original instruments. The main thing I like is how they're wireless.

I can play guitar on expert and sing on medium.... so far I've tried Man in the Box and Interstate Love Song (only because I knew those songs a LONG time ago) and get 97%+ on guitar and 90% singing, basically I'm not even looking at the lyrics when I'm singing.

You should be able to use your RB drums on GH:WT. If you have the RB2 drums, there are ports to add cymbals if you want.

Personally, besides the cost, I don't have the room for a second set of drums.

I bought some pads that stick to my RB1 drums. Made them ALOT quieter. My friend who bought the RB2 drums said that they are quieter than the RB1 drums, but not as quiet as my RB1 drums with the pads.

I think that to sing and play an instrument at the same time you NEED to memorize the words. Did you buy a microphone stand? How much was it?

You don't need to know the words at all, except for talkie parts, and even that is debatable. You can just 'la la la la' your way through it.

I'll get GHWT eventually but it would have to be on sale. Since I've been focusing on the drums for the last week I haven't bothered with GH3 even though I love it's songs. Basically getting another game would be overkill since I have RB1/2/DLC on one disc. If I see a deal for GHWT I'll post it here.

I've seen mic stands at circuitcity.com for $12.50 so your local CC should match.

I know that there are the regular sticky pads that you can buy that seem to work good. Wasn't there a ghetto of doing this with like towels or something?

Yeah, there are lots of ghetto ways to dampen the sound, like towels, mouse pads, felt, etc. Might not look the nicest, but I guess must do the job.

I bought my pads from Gamestop for $20. To me it was money well spent. I saw another kit at Best Buy that had the pads as well as a metal drum pedal for around the same price.

I read reviews on that BB set and it's crap. The pads are too thick as the notes don't read and the pedal lasts a week. Plus the sticks are heavier.

Speaking of drums, I'm on hard on some songs. Double bassing is a bitch. My toughest song that I finished was Pretty Noose which was the level before Impossible even though The Ramones, rated easier, was very tough for the bass. Then I tried Cherub Rock and I only lasted a verse. How do people play these songs in real life?

First of all, Real drum players have two bass drums, so you can alternate hits. That makes a huge difference too.

Second of all, the stock pedal isn't very good.
Try to find the 'sweet spot', the small distance you can raise your foot
and still trigger the next note. It's maybe halfway up, perhaps less.

I had the same problem as you - even if I could do it, my leg would get tired ultra fast. After getting a good pedal (in my case, the Rock Pedal), I have now swept through hard (well, almost - I can't stand the heavy/death metal songs, so screw em.) and am now attempting expert.

With a good pedal, (one based on a real drum pedal) hitting a bass note is about as hard as tapping a beat on the ground with your foot. And about as tiring.

With a good pedal you can also heel toe: http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/sh...d.php?t=100222

I can't blow $100 on a pedal. I gotta find another way cheaper than that.

I've been reading some decent things about the Blockhead pedal:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218007399851

It seems to be a pretty reasonable compromise.

Thanks for the info. Apparently the splitter is useless but it sounds like some people are liking it anyways.

It's not exactly useless, but it is pretty much useless.
The game decides you hit the pedal when the drum pedal signal goes from zero to one. If you use a splitter, that rule still applies.

No current pedal does a 'pulse', which would allow you to leave your foot down, and send no signal until you lift and hit it again. Right now, if you press and hold, you hide the other pedal. You'd have to lift both feet to do any hit, and alternating hits would be tricky.

It is actually possible, but you'd need a pedal with a beater, which hits a sensor pad, that then sends the right signal. These do exist, but this
combination makes the Rock Pedal look cheap, not to mention you'd
want two of them.

How does the leaderboard work. I entered my code into the rockband.com web site and now my profile shows that I have a PS3. But how can I see how I do for each song. When I go to leaderboards in the site, my work pc gets stuck and I have to restart IE. Does it show where I rank for each song and campaign score?

I figured it out. I thought the scores would export from the game to the website. I didn't realize that I could go into leaderboards in the extras menu. I'm in the top 1900 for Sex Type Thing on drums.

Some fuckin' songs are easier to play on my real guitar than in GH/RB/2. IE, most Disturbed songs .. For instance, I can do about 95% of the Stricken solo on my Ibanez, but I can only last a few seconds on the second part of the solo in GH3 before I fail.

I love that freaking song and know it pretty good. But on medium I struggle on it. I haven't unlocked it on hard since I pretty much only play RB.

What drum modifications did you end up getting, and how do you like them?

I'm slowly working my way through expert drums on local tour.
I'm going through all the two circle songs - actually tried and survived a couple of three circle songs, but I can't roll nearly fast enough to survive 5 star
songs. Hopefully that gets better with practice.

I'm not even sure it's possible to get through three circle expert drum songs without being able to heel toe. For a fast song, can you really hit 16th notes on the bass pedal without heel toe? (Like say, You oughta know)

I only have the round furniture pads under my pedal so that my bass pedal doesn't need to travel so much. I kick the pedal with my heel up. With the limited travel I can bass much faster. It's kind of like a clutch where the signal "catches" the button midway rather than all the way down. I might get the RB silencer pads but since I have EL drums (least sensitive), I have to pop off the covers.

I'm mostly doing hard on drums though. I can pretty much survive most of the songs on hard except for most of the last 2 categories. I can do most of the 1st tier (warmup) on expert and some of the 2nd but after that is when the fails kick in. However there are random songs that I can do really well on. Sex Type Thing I've done twice on expert and gotten 97% both times thus the ranking. All the Soundgarden except Jesus Christ Pose I can get high 90's on Hard. Once I learn how to do the fast roll beats like the Killers and Everlong then I can finally move from hard to expert.

I assume you don't have the stock pedal anymore, if your pedal moves -
the stock is planted on the horizontal bars. (I had to take one of mine
out after I got the Rock Pedal) Did you get the Blockhead pedal?

You don't hit any fast rolls on expert for a while, so you should move on
up regardless. (well, except for some fills)

No I have the stock pedal. This is what I mean. Sorry if I didn't properly explain.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114652

Speaking of fast rolls, I tried to do the intro to Everlong to practice my rolls. At first I did it on hard and it was pretty easy as I got 100% for the intro. I really only have trouble with the Y,Y,Y,YR,Y,Y,Y,YR since you have to move your left hand to the left drum. But then I went for Expert so that the hits would match the actual song. That shit is fast. I think the best I mustered for that segment was like 62% meaning I hit every other note and the 3 bass hits.

You are right I should move up to expert as I did Testify (4 dots) on expert in the mid 90's. But then I can't even do the Impossible tier on hard. I'm kind of taking it a song at a time. If I kill it on hard, I try expert. I make a nice discovery of increasing my expert portfolio.

If anyone needs cheap guitars and prefer the 1st party ones, Gamestop has the Gibson from GH3 for $25 on PS3. I picked one up for my wife since the Nykos require man hands. The frets are much closer together and the strum is a little smoother.
