RockBand looks cool, but the $170 price tag to get all the peripherals with it is pretty hefty... I might just stick with GH3 for now.

I was actually standing in line waiting to pay for GH (360) when it hit me... "Sh!T! I have 3 real electronic guitars ans 1 acoustic sittin' at home collecting dust... but no amp..." so, I put GH back and ended getting a guitar amp instead

Oh hell yeah. I've always wanted to play a drum game at home.

You can buy the game standalone and use your GH II guitars if you don't want
to buy all the other instruments.

There's a pretty good chance I'm going to buy an xbox 360 just to play this game.
I managed to wait until they had DDR & Guitar hero ports for the PC, but I don't
think I can wait that long for Rock band.

I wonder if I can somehow play drummania after that....... it's google time.

I am buying GH3 and picking up just the Rock Band game (no peripherals) when it's available.

Turns out that the GH3 guitar works on Rock band.

they had the drums and the game demo at a best buy and people where in crowds playing it.

I love the diea of playing the drums part of the game...but storage on those things sucks...and they are unsightly to just have lying around in view all the time.

The drums are supposed to be detachable, and you could in theory lay them
out on a table and play there, so they should store semi reasonably.

Of course nothing beats real guitar, but real guitar is 100x harder.
It's just a game that anyone can pick up and have fun with, and that's part
of the magic.

Looks like drummania is a different beast, having an extra drum and maybe
an extra petal. I was flirting with getting some kind of kit to play with that,
but overall I think Rock band will just be more fun for people in general.

oh, I totally agree it's just a game that's fun as hell... especially with friends, but I just don't see myself playing it by myself... so, I usually play at friends' house... and practice my real guitar playing at home

yeah, that is expensive. It seems like it could be fun though.

speaking of GH3, I messed around the downloaded the Demo last night, and was up playing it for 2 hours after I should have gone to bed. That game is so damned addictive. This is my first time playing any of the GH games, and I am about hooked. Of course I didn't have the guitar, so I had to use the controller but still enjoyed it.

Interesting... I like the 90's playlist. I have less than 100 rock/metal songs in my library (recently got into it) and several of the 90's songs and some of the 70's ones are in my current rotation.

My brother always jokes that I should learn to play real guitar and he would learn to play drums. Maybe I could convince him to pitch in with me to get this game.

If the playlist was a bit better I would have gotten it, I really like a good number of the songs in GH3. Although I'll admit some of them are the most horrid songs I have ever heard.

I've been playing some solo band world tour by doing both singing (with the wireless headset) and guitar/drums. Good fun. In the singing, you don't have to say the words right so if you screw up words (in tune) it's okay. So it's not too bad.

There are some interesting mods on community.rockband.com.
The two big ones being using adhesive foam/felt to make the drums quieter,
and buying some sort of hard object to keep the bass pedal from breaking in half.
Like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Rock-Band-Bass-P...QQcmdZViewItem

if you push the end of the pedal down (like if you were just using your toe) you can see the pedal visually flex. It'll eventually break in half.

I did the foam/felt mod for the drums:

my set up:

had a get together - about 18 people came over to drink and play, here's some of our performances:

I was just getting ready to post that same video... He must be a drummer for real, but still really impressive. The video editing was really good too, the way you can see him drum and the video from the game on the right hand side. Plus he cuts out the game sound for a little bit so you can hear just him drumming.

Really Cool, I want this game but unfortunately this video is discouraging because I will never be able to play the drums on hard/expert.

Unlike guitar hero, where being able to play guitar means nothing, I think being able to play drums helps alot with this game.

By the way, at that last guy singing. Is that you?

After playing the game for a while, in some ways Drums are hard as hell, and in some ways it isn't as hard as it looks.

There's usually a certain short beat pattern that happens over and over and over.
Till you get it, it's grueling. But once you get it, you're gold.
But it's usually a short sequence, so you just have to work it out.

It's great fun, I recommend it.

Man, I just tried 'Don't fear the reaper' on hard drums.
It's totally insane! ha ha!

I hit yet another bizarro rhythm pattern at the end which caused me to fail out right away.
Time to hit some practice mode for a while.......

Brought it to a friend's place, we were doing some 3.2 player action.
Guitar, vocals, and drums. The drummers weren't very good, so if one would fail out,
another person took over. (Failing people get resurrected when someone else goes into 'star power/overdrive' modes.)

For singing, a sense of pitch (and some vocal range) is more important than anything else, looks like. One of the kids was able to pass every song on easy, even though his english isn't particularly good, and he hadn't heard these songs before. He just kinda fudged his way through and did a lot of on-key 'la la la'. It was a lot of fun, actually.

Rock Band 1.05 patch out for PS3!

If you have a PS3, a new patch is out!

I don't know all of what is in it yet, but I do know this...

THE LES PAUL FROM GH3 WORKS IN RB NOW!!!!

I also noticed there is now an "Export Songs" feature in the "Options" menu. I am assuming this is for the upcoming RB2.

On a side note, who else is irked by the damn Xbox 360 Exclusive for 1 month?!

Yeah, I believe microsoft made a mandate that music controllers MUST be
compatible with music games (guitar hero world tour, rock band)

This is actually bizarro on drums, since each drum set has a different number of drums/symbols, and but the games still work somehow.

It's supposed to be quite a bit nicer actually, the people on the rockband forums are pretty happy with it. Quieter, better rebound, reinforced pedal.

I ordered the goodwoodmods set tho.
