360, PS3: L.A. Noire
Anyone pick it up yet?? I'm debating picking up a copy for PS3. It looks visually amazing i'm just worried that it's going to be really repetitive and slow...

Anyhoo, just finished Dead Space 2. Didn't like Crysis 2 so I'm either going LA Noire or Brink.

Anyways, checked it out last night and its pretty awesome. Interrogating suspects, taking notes and gathering evidence is pretty fun, plus when interrogating you can get other players on the networks opinion on how to proceed with a witness/suspect. Also, the cars in the game are beautifully made, I think Rockstar is the best game developer ever!

Heavy Rain was like a movie where you are the director. You make decisions and choices when investing your son's kidnapping as one character, and play as other characters as well. The twist at the end was mind-blowing to say the least. Each decision you make influences the subsequent events in the game so that gameplay is completely individualized to every decision you make. There's no button mashing involved.

This game is sweet! I bought it the day it was released and I have to say it is quite good. It plays like a free-roam FPS with entertaining cut scenes. If anyone here played Mafia 2, the fistfights and layout of the apartments are very similar. From a driving and shooting standpoint, the game is the same as most of the GTA series. The facial features are amazing and provide much needed detail for the interrogation format of the game. I haven't yet played enough to become bored or tired of repetitive assignments, but I think the idea of the game is novel enough to keep most people interested for the entire game.
On a side note, if anyone has read the LA Quartet by James Ellroy, you will notice parallels that border on copyright infringement. This game is like playing LA Confidential if it were a video game. Enjoy it!!

It seems to be that style game.
I asked my BIL about the 6 disc and he doesn't know anything about that, can anyone confirm this?

Let me clear that up...During development it was six discs. but because of some new compression technology they were able to get it down to 3

No button mashing in this title either. You really have to pay attention to facial expressions to solve crimes. If you miss them you either fail the mission or have to do way more work to solve the case.

Is L.A. Noire super open world like GTA? If so I may pass. I was getting small kind irritated from the driving from Point A to Point B in Mafia 2 TTYTT
Never played KOTOR. If you're super into movies like me and Twiggy you will dig Heavy Rain, very cool and engrossing. Plus the ending will shock you.

I haven't played allot, but the world does seem allot more mafia 2 like, but hopefully with a much, much better story.
Anyway. At least in the beginning it doesn't seem to be as focused on exploring the city.

^ it is open world but you don't have to do side missions. It's still gonna be a long game though. There is a cool feature that lets you make your partner drive and it skips to the destination. IMO this could be GOTY. This or Portal 2

Well, what I mean is.
In gta4 they encourage you to stop and look around. Nico always has a safehouse and if you want to move the story along you need to go and initiate the next part by meeting somebody or answering the phone. The story is basically on pause and separate from the sandbox. Mafia 2 and this game the world only exists in within the story.

So. After playing through a third of it. This game really focuses you on the investigation. It actually reminds me of shenmue more than anything. Everybody gives you a little piece of the puzzle and you have to put it all together. Event though they built a little piece of L.A. The game really tries to get you from one interview/interrogation to the next. The driving mechanic is, combat, and on foot platforming are dumbed down a bit, but somehow with the exception of driving I don't feel slighted by that (I loved the fact that gta tried to give the cars a real semi real physics model and think that should be in any sandbox game).

i don't know...this game isn't really doing it for me. I've only got about 1hr & 1/2 in but it's pretty repetitive. you get a case..go ask some questions..and then confront the bad guy who you chase as soon as he takes off.
I mean visually it's amazing. The detail and accuracy in the city is amazing. But i find it to be kind of a waste when there's no reason for you to go and explore the city. you just go from point a to point b when you're dispatched on a case.
The great thing about games like GTA is you actually benefited from exploring the entire city and using it to your advantage.

I'm pretty near the end of this game now. I'd say the mechanics are pretty well balanced between novelty and function. I was also getting tired of the formulaic approach to every case, but the game takes a few turns that leave you detecting in other modes. Overall, I'm still pleased with the game. I'd call it a 20 hour game. Not too bad IMO.

Got it yesterday, played for 1 hour and I was done with 11% of the game. Hweird. I like the questioning and interrogation tactics, I have such little trust in people I'm always calling their bullshit. The chick working in the shoe store was not pleased when I called her a liar LOL. I'm finding the driving a bit tedious, what's the short cut to make my partner drive?
