True. Having the option to control traffic would be cool as well. To turn it off for drag races would be great, but then also have the traffic on and select light/regular/heavy traffic for more of a challenge. It would be fun to have a Point to Point race with heavy traffic and if you crash, you lose

"These are Horizon's Showcase Events, novelty tournaments that include races against Mustang aircrafts which follow a flight path somewhere above you while you navigate a long stretch of highway. Any of the events raced in single player can be taken into the online competitive world. Rivals Mode lets you attempt to beat a friend's time, and speed traps measure your speed compared to others on your friends list and notify them the next time they load up the game."

"The festival is your main hub, a kind of interactive menu system for accessing DLC, upgrading and painting your cars, forming clubs, entering into online and rivals modes, or lusting after Playground's roster of available cars in its Auto Show - a place that details the interiors and exteriors of each car in a way that can only be described by that fine colloquialism "car porn.""

http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/...rld-race-track

" Unlike the traditional Forza Motorsport games that are focused strictly around sanctioned racing on closed circuit courses, Horizon offers a variety of racing types including point to point, drifting, stunt driving and circuit racing with much of the action taking place on the scenic open roads of Colorado. Turn 10 promises over 60 different types of racing surfaces on road and off, offering the first sample of the awesome Forza series dynamics on something other than a paved surface intended for racing. Unlike Forza 1 through 4, Horizon will have you racing more than cars, with events pitting you against helicopters and fight planes as you earn points for smashing through obstacles and roadside items."

http://www.torquenews.com/106/new-fo...ealed-video-e3

...

"So what is “Forza Horizon” like? To start, the backdrop and driving roads are modeled after the best that Colorado (especially Grand Junction) has to offer. The game’s seeds were planted some time during E3 2010, and Fulton’s development team surveyed Colorado last year before deciding it was ideal. An open-ended virtual world of majestic magnitude was born, consisting of long highways, rustic-looking buildings, fun twisties, and dirt paths. Day turns to night, and vice versa. Players can roam wherever they wish, dodging (or hitting) traffic and generally being a menace to society by powersliding, doing donuts, and knocking down signs and fences. The main focus is to enjoy your car of choice on your own terms. Fulton and Greenawalt wants to engage the youth audience who may not be as zealous about cars as we wish they were, and we’re behind the two all the way."

"Aside from driving around aimlessly, there are challenges too. You can partake in street races for points or pink slips, earn points for causing mischief on public streets, bask in car culture and an auto show in the game’s Horizon Festival (the player’s staging area), and Playground and Rival modes from past and present Forza games will make appearances. And like any good racing game, multiplayer action comes standard."

"
We drove the 2013 SRT Viper in a single point-to-point race on twisty roads and can’t say the handling predictability and control response gives anything up from “Forza 4,” though it does take a different driving mentality when weaving through traffic versus tracing the racing line on a track. The Forza-standard camera views remain in play. Amusingly, playing chicken with traffic cars will force the AI to flash their high beams as you zoom towards a head-on collision – a neat touch, that."

I'm sort of let down after seeing this demo. Starts at 1:05...

Hitting stuff gives me points? Really? Looks like the developers were playing NFS too much.

Also, F and E class cars won't be in the game.

I'm still getting it but I'm very skeptical about the hitting fences thing. Reminds me of the tank challenges in Saints Row 3

Hopefully it has a photo mode like FM4. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of incredible photo ops judging by the screenshots.

I hope they let you upload your own music library so we can actually ENJOY this real world simulation

and if they make it like NFS where you can just floor it everywhere, I will be fucking pissed, and probably end my fanboi status.

From what I've read, there will be radio stations you can listen to while in the car. Maybe a set up like GTA has always had.

Also, the physics will be the same. They just wanted to open the world up more.

Yep, they just wanted to build off of what Forza already had. They felt like Forza was too constrictive, so they based the game off of an open world.

OakTre linked me to this video. It's 25 minutes long but the guy speaking goes pretty in-depth about the game...

Quoting from someone in the Forza thread about this game: "it will have Forza based physics, but changed to allow more 'stylish' driving"

Physics aren't a huge deal to me. I can play an open world game if it's 1) fun, 2) great selection of cars, 3) customization of cars, and 4) able to play online with my friends. Horizons seems to have all of this. I can guarantee this game will be quite a good time. So what if it isn't exact FM4 physics? Sometimes in Forza I just want to kick back and cruise, without having to worry about all the seriousness of the game. Horizons seems to fit this "slightly less serious" game, but still seems to promise hours of fun.

I was talking to Austin about this last night while playing FM4 but I think Horizon is to Forza what Reach was to Halo. I don't think Horizon is taking place of Forza 5, but 5 will be released next year.

thanks OAK..

i enjoy open world driving myself... i just think there is a time and place for "arcade-like" driving style. i'll leave that to midnight club ( i enjoy those games as well)

but an open world racer with sim-like handling traits is the best of both worlds for me.

No prob. I spend my workday browsing le webs so you all don't have to! heh heh

I agree with you though. We've been saying for a long time that an open world Forza would be the perfect game, and we are going to get it. I'm also really anxious to hear about what kind of photography you can do in this. Seems to have a ton of incredible scenery and it would seem silly for them not to have a photo mode of some sort.

I wish they would make it easier to share though. Once uploaded to the website, the image codes and links and such should be already there to copy.

The handling is the same feel as Forza and there has been no attempt to change this familiar play, and the idea for it is that players can go high speed on the open road without any restrictions. The open world aspect is great for those who want to go smashing through fences and explore new areas and races. Introducing a game where you can keep on driving and it never ends gives the developers the opportunity to put circuits and point races somewhat anywhere.

Technically there has been many new demands, getting the right distance for things like the Red Rock Canyons and introducing incredible detail and this has been done with a new system called the ‘Uber LOD’. Forza Horizon will entail collecting cars much like previous games and different cars may be required for a lot of off-roading, as there are 65 different surface types to drive on. Only last week we looked at Forza Horizon night racing and the rewards along with an E3 video.

Hmmmmmm veddy interesting.

Am I the only ones who thinks VIP members should get a hefty discount on the DLC packs? I hated spending $80 on the LE and then $30 on the Season Pass which didn't even include the last 2 or 3 packs.
