Yea, Tyler sent me a party invite, but I just started to d/l the Porsche pack. Hitting a button would stop the d/l

Well I decided I am completely bored with this game. Car collecting just gets old after a while when the racing is the same tracks with no weather and really no variety. I used to play Forza 3 for HOURS on end. Then I got Forza 4 and was impressed with the improvements but I got bored quick. So I picked up DIRT 3. What a difference. Graphics are better (in my opinion) and the varied gameplay was much more fun. The user interface wasn't as good and the lack of car customization was a downer. But I still put way more hours into DIRT 3 then I did Forza.

I ended up selling Forza (and a handful of other games) recently to Amaozn. I think I got $10 or $15 for it.

I hope Forza Horizon offers the type of gameplay that will keep me playing because I've always liked the series but there just isn't enough new material in Forza 4 from even the original Forza and especially Forza 2 and 3 to keep me playing.

Sucks you sold it. Online play is the saving grace for the game IMO. Buying, modding and driving cars gets boring, but online racing is always fun.

Eh I had Dirt 3 for awhile from Gamefly and it was incredibly easy and once it was done with there just wasn't anything to do. The whole gymkhana track was cool for a bit but it got old after awhile. Don't get me wrong the game was really fun and I loved it, but it went by quickly and was I became bored quickly.

I like the new car pack for FM4

this one has ~900hp already, lol

stock engine in the beetle. but the thing does 1.1g's as a benchmark

lot of fun to drive. Tyler says his is an S-class, but mine has the stock motor and is a ~493 B-class

man I wish I could take the cars from forza in real life, and go shoot those. Even though they let you do some cool photo shit, I would LOVE to use my IRL skills on the beauties

I think you guys need to stick to like, say B-class cars for awhile and you'll find the game to be a lot more fun and less frustrating.

This car pack turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be. C63 Black is insane and I love the Beetle

Whenever I get a new car, I fully build it just to see what it can do, and then I take parts off and make it a lower class. My C63 fully built is a R2 but I have setups saved for both R2 and S class.

nice. good to know. I have a built c63 amg already...it was pretty fun...but was a total sled and didn't handle. the width of the black should put it in my wheel house.

the beetle is by far the best f class car btw. this is still f- class benchmarks...look at that handling!!!

towards te end of my playing yesterday...great AI huh?

Jalopnik: So, what's the big difference with Forza Horizon?

Alan Hartman: It's a fundamentally different take, it's about music and car culture, the fun and the style of the entire scene. There's different road surface types, not just closed racing circuits— even off road. There's plenty of racing, in the form of challenges and formal races, and even a number of special challenges, like racing a '70s era Boss Mustang against a P51 Mustang.

Jalopnik: A P51? As in the WWII fighter plane?

AH: Yep, that one.

Jalopnik: Finally!

AH: And, nighttime! There's so much that happens in the street scene at night, and we wanted to make sure you could drive at night.

Jalopnik: Are you still using the Forza 4 physics engine? Has anything changed?

AH: It is based on the same physics engine, yes. We did tweak things to allow for more "stylish" driving, though.

Jalopnik: What about the visuals?

AH: It's based on the Forza 4 engine, again, but with some significant changes. All of the cars had to be rebuilt for Horizon, since they're going to be doing a lot of different stuff. Plus, we had to do things like making the lights work. We're also using a lot more scattered light effects compared to Forza 4, and have many more different lighting environments. Much more bounced light for atmosphere. We have what we've been calling, usually in a British accent, "UberLOD"— LOD meaning "Level of Detail."

There's also big vistas you'll see as you drive. Views that go 20 miles out— and you can drive to any of them.

Jalopnik: What do you mean?

AH: If you see it, you can drive to it. Well, maybe not some of the mountaintops, but still. You can drive into the Rockies, then look down off the side of the mountain and see the festival below. The map is full and huge and there's many miles of road to discover.

Jalopnik: Can you import your cars from Forza 4?

AH: Not really— they're different cars. Some special ones, yes, we'll have Horizon versions of them, but not all of them.

Jalopnik: So, in this big open world, how is everything structured?

AH: The basic premise is you're attending a festival, and your goal is to become King of the festival by gathering fans. You do that by winning races, risky driving, stunts, special challenges and events.

Jalopnik: It looks like there's now actual humans at these festivals. Much like some actual car shows I've been to.

AH: Yes! Interaction with people is there. There's a story and everything, but as always, the car is still the star.

Jalopnik: In Forza 4, I love that I can kill 10 minutes waiting for something by quickly jumping in and playing a quick race. Will that sort of easy, casual play still be possible here?

AH: Yes— we still want to offer a casual aspect. You can hop right in and start driving, just drive around if you like, or find a challenge for a race.

Jalopnik: I banged into a bunch of non-player cars when I tried it out. Most seemed to be Priuses. Are there any repercussions for, you know, vehicular manslaughter of innocents?

AH: Uh, nope. In fact, we have a sort of informal minigame seeing how many Priuses you can knock off the road. Don't let Toyota hear that, though. We love Toyota.

Jalopnik: Oh, I won't tell them. How many cars will be available? Any nice weird ones? Vintage ones?

AH: There's a LOT of cars. I can't give a number now, but it's huge selection. All road cars this time, no pure race cars like in Forza. They're an eclectic mix, cars you'd take to a festival.

Jalopnik: Any message you have for Jalopnik readers?

AH: Thanks for putting in all those wild cars!

so. it's gonna be this.

i'll say it now, I'm not wasting money on it if they changed the physics to 'allow more stylish driving'

aka, they are saying fuck you to all of us who loved the forza title.

Prostreet was one of the best NFS games IMO. (Obviously other than Underground 2!) Great drift, drag, and circuit racing, just needed better physics. Who cares about no race cars? It's a street based game, how often do you see an Audi LMP car rolling around the streets?

Racing cars should be in serious racing games. Open world shouldn't have LMP cars and the like. Could you imagine how annoying a car like that would be to drive on a regular road?

Weaving through traffic would be fun

I'm sure the dookie ass Smart Car will be in the game. I would rather drive a LMP through traffic than that car.

Whaaat? It'd be more fun to play chicken in Smart cars than drive a car that would handle like poo with less realistic physics.

lol stfu Sean! What I mean is those cars are way to serious for real roads and I feel they wouldn't achieve their full level of effective grip on the street since the speeds you achieve wouldn't be as high and I know those things suck balls when they don't have enough traction. They don't drift for shit. I say no race cars and give me some Caterham/KTM/Ariel!

hahahah. no I know what you are saying. the prototype tube chassis style cars, they aren't even fun under 80 mph, and yeah. you would just basically crash into everything.

however, I don't want to see the >900 PI score cars disappear...like the quattro s1...that will be gone even though it's perfectly capable of being safe on ANY road surface

Yes! Idk why they are not in the game. I guess someone probably has the exclusive rights, similar to the way Porsche was exclusive to EA for a bit. I've never seen one in any Forza games. I know that a few Caterhams were in TDU2, and I forget if the Ariel was or not.
