CLS-6 Vs 02-03 3.5 Max 6 speed
How do these two cars compare performance wise. Which one is faster over all. I got a buddy wit the 02 3.6 speed with bolt ons, he says his best 1/4 time is 13.6 and I saw him go 13.8 today. I havent seen anyone in my area with a fully modded bolt on 6 speed CL at the track so I was wondering how the both cars compare stock and modded. I have read the articles on each but im intrested in know what they have been known to do, not what a company supposedly tested.

I'm sure a properly driven 6speed could get mid-to-low 13's with full bolt ons.
allmotor_2000 (the guy who had the first turbo) got 13.572 @ 102.65 NA with I'm not sure what bolt on's.

I believe the local guy with the red cl w/ carbon fiber hood/trunk ran a high 13 prior to putting nitrous on his car and like a 14.1 with just the cold air intake.

I've run 14.2 to 14.3 with my 2001 auto many times, with the unichip, comptech headers, catback, icebox and pullies, so I would think the 6 speed with the same mods less the chip could break 14's consistently if driven well.

He claims 13.6 with bolt ons? I'd like to know what he has, also is he on street tires?
My friend had a 6spd 02 that ran 13.8 with UDP, y-pipe, cat, exhaust, intake, udp and it was one of the faster 5.5 gens out there.. i dont think they are quite capable of 13.6 yet. i also thought people were putting down 13.8s with just headers on 6 speed CL-Ss?

A CL will not get under 14 for a NORMAL driver. Any time you see with just a few mods that have broken 14 are GOOD drivers with track experience. If you don't have much of that your can forget about it. A 6MT is a bitch to launch right as well.
I'm not saying the car will not do 14 & under with just bolt on's, it will, but it takes a driver to get it there. Other cars are a hell more forgiving on a track. The CL is not one of those.

gutted non leather maxima? dumbest thing ive ever heard. not to mention its made with an extra ugly chromosome.. speed isnt everything.. and im pretty sure a full bolted 6speed type s would tie if not beat it

I still think he'll take ya. I'm haven't driven the 6-speed CL. But I just don't believe that it's really capable of doing mid 13's without FI, unless you are an acceptional driver, have every bolt on, gutted the car and every possible enviromental condition is perfect for racing.

I use to own a 2002 Nissan Maxima Auto, although a buddy of mine has a 02 6 speed maxima and let me tell you that thing hauls ass, its got power everywhere, some local guys at the track i know ran 13.7's with E/H/I/light weight wheels... The CL is just as fast as the 3.5 6 speed but it just dosent feel like it due to the lack of torque which iam starting not too like.

I know for a fact the Max will easily beat our CL-S's in raw speed. But we will def take them down in handling. My buddy has an 05 Max and ive driven it. It handles like a boat/limo. There both nice cars though imo.

My 05 Murano can take down my 02 Maxima when it comes to handling.

I drive an 02 Max 6MT with headers, full exhaust, Cai, emanage blue and a few other goodies (my gf has a cl-s that is why I'm on here) and with similar setups most maxes are in the mid to low 13's with good tires. There is a guy with I think Drag Radials and emanage ultimate, headers and exhaust running 12.8 on the max forums. Stock for stock my max easily beat my gf's cl (also 6MT). I think the true test would be on a dyno, drivers can easily be .5 sec diff in the 1/4 mile. The modded 3.5L max with headers, exhaust, cai and safc tunes usually have 240whp 235ish wtq SAE corrected on a dynojet dyno. So that would be the best comparison. One bad thing about the 3.5L maxes is that we have drive by wire and for some stupid-ass reason the throttly body begins to close around 700rpm before redline so we have to get an expensive aftermarket ecu to correct that. We hit a bottleneck hard for instance now I can chirp 3rd with my stock clutch w/ 50k on it when i shift just before 6k but when I shift at 6.5k it doesn't with equally fast shifts. I'm starting to ramble just an fyi.

that max is nice but keep in mind, they do also have a bigger motor...not that counts for a whole lot but its there. Take for example one of our members where who has a 3.5 swap on his cl with bolt ons whom runs constant 13.4s with those bolt ons and its an auto. He is also dynoing in the 240whp range. Personally I think its a drivers race between the two cars but if lets say the j32a2 was a j32a2 with a j35 bottom ...I think the advantage would go to the cl-s 6 speed.

The guy that was running 13.8 wit the maxima is now running 13.4. I dont know what he got done now, but i know he is N/A. There is now another guy running 13.8. Neither of them are running on street tires. I believe they are on 16 inch leight weights wit drag tires.
