Yumcha Buys Car, Arrives After World Ends, Abuse of Vehicle Ensues

I have not had issues with space as the trunk has really ample room and is almost like a wagon/avant in capacity albeit with that slope but it has not impacted my ability to haul larger things when needed.
Aside from being an idiot like driving into a curb and requiring a refinish of the scuffed rim and then, the alignment adjustment, the car has been relatively issue-free (not counting the TSB regarding the MMI system).
That being said, the car still has it's "quirks" that from what I read and talking to other Audi owners to be well, "German". Here are what I have noted:
- The car will occasionally think that the key is not there and would complain that the fob is missing while driving. Nothing happens to my drive like the car shutting itself off. Just weird because the fob is in my pocket.
- The Audi Connect feature is quirky: I added a new RSS feed but it only shows up in my listed news services sometimes. Not sure under what conditions it decides to show.
- Unsure if it is my smartphone or the car but I have to occasionally re-connect my Bluetooth so that the system will access my SMS features. Or, if I don't notice on my phone, I have to allow it (tap yes). There is no way to add accessing SMS as a permanent allowable thing or the Audi as trusted in my Pixel.
- Continuing with the Android Auto, if I leave my phone plugged in via USB, if I depart the car to say, pick up a coffee and then return and re-start the car, sometimes, the MMI no longer recognizes my phone and I need unplug/replug it the device in to get the car to allow/connect.
- The trunk closure with the fob is interesting. I can open the trunk with the fob from a pretty far distance but closing it, I literally have to be NEAR the trunk about 1 feet away. Any farther, it won't close. I just hear the latch sound but it stays up.

Thanks Yummy. I have some of the same weird issues with my CX-5 that sound like these. Perimeter key but some random combination of actions negates the auto locking feature. I’ve had Ray Bans stolen from it because I thought it locked and it didn’t. CarPlay won’t recognize phone.
It it feels like auto companies need better software engineers.

My car is a 2011 and I know how you guys feel.
About 9 months ago, my Kia rejected the smart key and I had to unlock it with the manual spare door key and start it with the fob activated glove compartment start button.
My trunk also opens by itself on a daily basis.

It's German, Yum...
it's Quirky like the Furor!
Seriously though...mine defaults to no recirculation every time...
I see the key flashing a red button intermittently...I think the car spot checks if the key is in the car while driving. Why not just put it in the slot in the dash to see if that alleviates it. I'm assuming you wear metal pants like a robot and that'll hinder the RF.
About the trunk, if the car senses the key near the body...or in it, or ignition on...I can't go and just open the trunk, I must manually release with the door or FOB.
I get conditioned to adapt to whatever the car wants. Also like the Furor.

Yeah, just "German"-isms for these cars...they are just quirky. They don't do the techie stuff as bug-free as the Japanese but lordy, these are fantastic driving vehicles though.

I don’t use Audi Connect, so I can’t comment on those issues. Some of the phone issues might be Android because my iOS phones have been rock solid. No key fob intermittency either and my key is always in my left pocket.
Only issues I have had with the MMI are a couple times it reset, and sometimes it doesn’t recognize the USB ports in the armrest.

Yeah, it's quite plausible that Android Auto is buggy on the Pixel. I will be replacing the phone this winter likely and so, we'll see how the app and then the car behaves with the new device.

Can't believe this thing is still running after all the abuse you have put it through in its short life.
No picture of the before and after of the wheel?

I think the distance "issue" with the Trunk closing is done on purpose for safety reasons. They dont want you to close the trunk on someone's head or your kid's fingers.. Yes the trunk should automatically stop if it hits something (i tried it with my head on my 435GC ) It will not smash you but will hit you nevertheless. They want to make sure that you are close enough to see it.
Is it necessary? probably not. But you know.. German... They over engineer things sometimes... i mean a lot of times.

And FWIW, I've been given a loaner Q5 and it's trunk can close from any distance.

I've had a number of connection issues with CarPlay in my S4. I like it overall, but sometimes the rear view camera causes it to straight up stop working. Like, you still get audio but when you hit the "CarPlay" button from the launch menu it just goes right back to the main menu. It's weird as hell. Other times it just doesn't launch at all when I connect.
Buggy but still a great feature. Managed to get it working with iOS 13, too. The new split home screen is pretty nice.

You read the manual
Maybe Q5 is too old? But that is what i think tho... you could not even close the trunk on the 435gc with the remote, i think probably for the same reason as your distance thing.

And perhaps, it's a newer safety feature then...? That's very plausible. Well, chalk it up as Germanism then. Quirky car.

Why do you guys always default to homoeroticism
It's really sad that your homophobia manifests in such an immature manner
How do you think J and Kurt feel about this?
You're making a joke about their truths
Drop the hostilities
Make Acurazine a Safe Space (for Taco)
