Your carputer has nothing on this guy...

Some computer junkie in what appears to be New Zealand has taken the carputer to a whole new level with a continuous 3G wireless connection and custom web application that can be used via any iPod touch or iPhone.
The craziest part about it is him having embedded an RFID chip in his arm to use with the RFID reader on the car window. Link above has the details. Video below.

a lot of really cool but basically useless stuff.
hope you don't go to a bunch of carshows cause if you walk by your car it will just turn on.
even though you can turn it on with the remote or even your phone.
i guess having your car be a permanent wifi spot is nice but my phone does the same thing. gotta love joiku spot.

According to the description on his site, it should work with the 3G connection on an iPhone. The application he wrote is essentially a web application so there is no reason it couldn't rely on the 3G data connection.
where would he use it? either fairly close to the car or at home or at work...
but to be quite honest, i just think that he just went around the block to get to his neighbors house... everything he demo'd is available on any 2-way viper paging alarm to lock/unlock, start and trunk pop... so in order to remote start my car, my iphone goes through the internet, the internet finds the car and starts the car... my viper can send the signal directly to my car... it would be funny if someone hacked him though...
don't get me wrong, the carputer is cool as shit.. i have had one in my TL for 4 yrs now... and the only cool thing i think that is worth the effort is the real time OBD-II readings in your hand as your car is running... but aside from that, alot of time in for something really pointless..

maybe i need to read his website to be more convinced... ill do it tomm at work...
lol i was thinking the same exact thing....this thing is cool and all but if u dont have wifi....ur screwed lol

pointless because it won't work without your itouch being connected to a wifi... if he had a dedicated internet connection on an iphone... then that would be cool...
