Pretty amazing photos..

I assisted at this accident yesterday north of Deer Lodge on I-90. The driver was appx 22 year old guy heading east to College. He had left central Washington early in the morning. He fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the shoulder hitting the end of the section of guard rail.

The guard rail came through the right headlight, engine compartment, firewall, glove box, passenger seat, rear seat and exited out the driver’s side rear window. That is 120 LF of guard rail that threaded through the suburban.

No passengers and the driver was not injured.

I am sharing this as a reminder to all about NOT driving when you shouldn’t be behind the wheel (drinking, texting, distracted or just plain tired).

That's one of the craziest wrecks I've ever seen.

 

That's fucking scary, no other way to put it. Not to mention a sobering reminder of staying alert. Thanks God he didn't have any passengers, and I hope the driver learned his lesson.

But... the guardrail looks kinda cool threaded out the back like that.

 

There were no skid marks, so he must have been sound asleep until it stopped itself. Lucky bastard.

 

Good eye. But how the hell does that not wake someone up!?!

Also begs the question: How fast was this guy going?!

I doubt you could shove a guardrail through a packed engine bay, then through the rest of the car travelling at say, 60-65 mph. Not to mention half the wooden stands he took out. Which also brings the question: How are half of them not knocked over?

Same thing happened to my father's friend but the rail went through the center of the dash and stopped at the rear seat.
