Yet again... Dealer refuses to sell Challenger SRT8 to winning eBay bidder

http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...s-29-1k-34598/

- Dealer lists Dodge Challenger SRT8 on eBay.
- Dealer doesn't put reserve.
- Someone wins auction.
- Dealer won't honor winning bid.

When will these sellers learn...

If this happened to me I'd show up at the dealership with a flatbed and load the car onto it, go inside tell them I'm here to complete the deal and be on my way. Granted that would get you in hot water legally but it would be worth it.

Having worked for several dealerships, I can tell you that the management in these places have the attention span of a gnat. They simply don't comprehend the concept of negative press or think about what happens as a result of their actions. All they think is, Well we can sell this to somebody else and make more money. Pretty stupid but that's really how they think.

I think they do it on purpose, thinking they can bait-and-switch. But once they go no reserve, they are hosed.

^ The seller is new... must have not read up on Reserve Auctions.

Either way I'm pretty sure it's a binding agreement, however, not sure how enforceable it would really be. I'm sure the dealer also has a clause about errors and omissions which protects them too... so both sides will likely have to give a little...

I disagree, this incident may be on the internet, but its being viewed by a limited amount of people. Maybe 10,000 people at the most and that's overestimating.

Consider this, even if this topic were to be viewed by 50,000 people, you will have to factor how many of those people in live anywhere near the dealership. Probably 430 of those 50,000 people. Now figure how many of those people were even considering purchasing a car. Maybe 78 of those people...next figure how many of those 78 were looking to purchase a Dodge...I'm sure you get the idea.

The world is a big place, and just because information spreads quickly through the internet doesn't mean everyone will know about it.

Look at the Toyota incident, it was only recently aired on CNN (two months ago). I had found out about it about 6~7 months ago, and there are still a few people who still don't know about it.

^^^

If you google the dealer name and challenger, you get links to this issue. So with google, it won't go away so easily.

I know if I am buying from a dealer I've not been to before I would google them to see if they are ethical and if I would want to do business with them.

So, no this won't put them out of business and everyone won't know what happened, but it will likely have a negative impact on their business.

You could also read the post to mean that not understanding ebay (internet) will hurt business in the sense you lose money from a sale.

As they should have done in the first place. Now they lost out on a Challenger AND have negative publicity on this issue, which could certainly sway future buyers. Lose lose for the dealer.

Idiots. Just honor the deal in the first place.

No matter the situation, every dealer HAS to try to find some kind of way to screw you. Its like its in their DNA. Take my recent deal for instance:

I had a VPP code so they had to sell the car at whatever price the computer spits out. So what do they try next? You got it, jack up the MF to .00450!! I was like, "Umm, naw." No matter what the deal or who the dealer, they will ALWAYS try to squeeze you for whatever they can.

I don't understand why they can't just make a fair deal in the first place without the hours of BS....

At least this dealer didn't pull all the crap Glenn Hyundai did. That was bloody ridiculous; threatening to sue him for slander because he posted the truth? Please.

Good on the dealer to give the guy the deal..... Yeah, it hurts the bottom line, but they'll get it back.
