XJ8 for college graduate
I am graduating college in December, and I plan to lease a Jaguar XJ8. Do you guys think its an appropriate ride for my age?
Cool car, just not for a 22 year old out of college, my

I would even go with a new XJ8 over an Stype R......all 06 XJs have the wire mesh grille (looks great). Get a nice color, light tint and you're set.
The incentive to getting an XJ8 is that they simply lease out like champs.
No other $65k luxury car leases out as well.

My mother had a Jag XJ8 from 2000-2003, the car was in the shop once a month, way too many problems with that car. However they do look great. I would look into leasing a new 07 E92 335i or E90. That would fit your age better and a lot more fun to drive too.

Current deal (take that $4k down add it back to the payment). You're at around $780/month for 24 months, just have to deal with your State tax.
That's a great deal, all relatively speaking of course (as $780/month is a still a big nut for most).

For the money, go German. The XJ is a nice car, but its performance is nothing to write home about. A 550i 6 speed is about the same price and rewards the driver much more.

We had a 98 XJR that was awesome. Never had any problems with the car and it ran hard up to 120k when we sold it. Talking to other Jag owner before the Ford take over and listening to their horror stories is something that I'm glad we never had to experience.

Being smart about financial assets would be the exact reason not to get this car.
Its a beautiful car, and I'm sure its worth the cash, but personally I'd wait a year and save up some $$ before getting locked into something like this. I'm assuming you already have a job lined up, so what if you don't like it? Large car payments are a bitch if you want to job hunt.
Build up a decent savings account, start a retirement fund, buy some stocks. Get some nice shit for your house/apt. Then get the car.
This is just what I wish I had done a couple years ago... I went through a CL type S and an S2k and a bunch of mods and stereo shit...now I have nothing to show for either.

The difference between the lease on this Jag and say a Subaru Legacy would add up to $12,000 over two years. That makes for a nice down payment on a house, a new car, or just a nice stash in case shit happens.

I agree. If I had spent all my money on sound financial investments I wouldnt be able to enjoy my modded car or trips abroad.
Im pretty sure everyone agrees its all about balance. Taking on that kind of a car payment this early in the game is dumb. You can get something nice you can enjoy for a lot less than that.

I personally would buy a cheaper car and invest/save for a while in this case. I invested last year in some property just south of Phoenix. I've had little "spending money" for a while, but if everything works out as planned I can pay off my car and have a really nice down payment for a house.

Burn some dust here
XJ's are wonderful cars. We had 2 of them (99 XJ8L and 01 XJR) and only had one problem (starter in the L). It's your money....if you want one, get one.
The good thing about the XJ is that Jag dealers will deal on them and it's quality/reliability have gone way up since Ford took over. Another item about the XJ that no one seems to notice is how good the audio system is. If you end up getting one, make sure you opt for the Alpine upgrade.
That all being said....if I were you I wouldn't get one. For the $65,000ish ballpark you are in, at your age, I would go with one of these:
