WTF is Sphinx International?
WTF is Sphinx International?
rant:
So i'm trying to sell my 06 Avalon Limited Edition w/ nav w/ 50k miles on Craigslist and my asking price is $19,999, kbb = $21,365 for excellent (which it is), and I get a response from this Sphinx International (sphinxinternational@yahoo.com) and
they say, "Hi, you realize that you are asking for more than a dealer would ask for retail price? I can give you $12,000 in cash if you are really interested in selling it."
I respond, "Nope, dealers asking 21k-22k for this car.kbb listed 21k as stated. Try a civic next time, more in your price range.
> Thanks but no thanks for the ridiculous offer"
THEN he has the AUDACITY to bring my ethnicity into it?!?!?
"For your information my price range is anything I would like it to be. The fact is you are trying to scam decent people into buying a ridiculously priced car for well OVER KBB pricing is pathetic. Learn how to read and use the Internet before being so rude and condescending. I wouldn't buy it from you for any price now anyways knowing that an Asian was driving it for 50k miles. You'll regeret not taking my offer..."
I'm FURIOUS now
My reason for posting: What would you do in this situation?

not give a fuck.
who cares.
he/she/they was trying to get a rise out of you, and they succeeded.
dont respond to them, you'll get more offers soon.
*edit
you dont have to respond to every offer.
you have the power, not the inquiree. if its a low ball offer, simply dont respond.

Is your email the same as your facebook account? If so then thats how he knows you asian.
I did that once on craigslist. Some bitch was talking all this shit about my price so i looked up her email in google/facebook and found out what her nickname was. Then I replied using it and she freaked out asking how i knew her personal nickname. I didnt reply after that just to spook her. She sent me two more emails after that asking how i knew.
But yea, move on.

I wouldn't have responded to the offer in the first place, but especially would've ignored the second too. Nothing to be so worked up about...who cares what a stranger says about the asking price of your car?
Just wait for potential offers and don't worry about the random stuff in between.

Man, you F'kd up big time now. You'll never sell that car; you had your chance and you blew it.

Whenever I run across a company with a yahoo.com email address, I know it's serious business, so I pay extra careful attention.
Anyhow, now you know.

"No thanks"
"No thank you"
"I am going to wait for a better offer."
"Thanks for the offer but it is not what I am looking for."
Saying "Try a civic next time, more in your price range" is offensive and I can see why you would received a response like you did. It is better to say nothing than dropping lines like that.
Other than that you can say what you please because it isn't like you are talking to this guy in person or have a reputation to maintain as a dealer.
...also after looking up pricing on 06 Avalons with around 50k miles I would not pay 20k for a private party car. More like 15.5-16.5 but maybe that is just my area. KBB is way off on most of there pricing, if I look up the trade in on my Civic the price is more than I paid new.
) I googled sphinx international and didnt come up with much, just that theyre a trading company or something? Owell, I'll keep on trying... CL is usually useless for selling, i'll post on autotrader soon
Well, now you know that the person who gave you a lowball offer is an ignorant racist who likes insulting people on Craig's List. The address seems like it's generic and not much associated with it comes up. It may be someone either pretending to have a business or a fairly questionable one. I'd just let it go as a brief e-mail exchange with one of the dregs of humanity.
