Wow, '05 Accord MPG

I just picked up my 2005 Accord EX Sedan. I got the I4 instead of the V6. After putting 600 miles on the car I took it on a road trip. To make a long story short, I got 35mpg out of it, going mostly 65-70. Not too shabby. Way better than the TSX, especially considering it runs on 86 or higher octane fuel.

I wish the TSX was more economical or I would have purchased one.

if the tsx were any more economical, you'd be driving a celeron like your I4 accord =P hehee jk

but anyways, im happy with my 25mpg average with more speed.

I get 32-35 mpg on my TSX, freeway-only driving. I once got 50 mpg, driving west over 75 miles from the north side of Yosemite National Park (mostly downhill).

On mixed driving 50/50, I get 24-25.

VTEC kills the car's economy, though. But it isn't like people keep the RPM needle pointing north all the time..

Whatever the case, I think the '05 Accord EX delivers the same amount of punch off the line that the TSX does. The Accord is putting out 160hp with 160 ft.lbs of torque while the TSX puts out 200hp with the same amount of torque. After driving both I couldn't justify the cost of the TSX when it is so similar to the Accord.

way better than the TSX? The 5AT TSX can get pretty close to your 35 mpg at that speed. But the bottom line is the TSX is leaning a bit more to the sporty side and less to the "economical" side so you probably got the better car for your needs.

The EX-V6 will do 30+ on the highway, too.

Whenever I get the feeling the car should have had more hp, I remind myself that fuel economy would have been lower as a result.

Overall I think I get more benefit from better milage than I would have from higher hp.

Routinely get 34 mpg on the freeway with my 5AT. Granted, I have to use premium, but that's a small price to pay for the added features of the TSX over Accord.

This was one of the things pointed out in this weeks review by Motorweek of the Accord hybrid. For real "green" reasons mating of the IMA system with an I4 would be a better choice. As it is, the only thing the Accord hybird provides is better straight line performance over the much cheaper I4 EX - cause the gas milage is no better.
