The sizzle in the Steak
For the record the last two german cars I have owned have been more reliable than the last 3 japanese vehicles I have owned.
EDIT: The 4th (vehicle) japanese motorcyle - very reliable. Too bad the four wheel vehicles were not.

Ken would never buy one because he claims the interiors smell like crayons

In a few years when this type of question is not asked anymore I'll get a VW as a daily driver.
Have you ever seen " would you buy a Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda?" thread. Most people are too busy to be checking oil constantly with GTI' turbo engine or have the cash to do DSG service every 40k. I take that back, maybe they have the time but most people I work with dont have the cash. So they are people off with a appliance of a car. For now the compromise between performance and strong reliability is still better in favor of Japanese brands. And thats where I ended up. For weeks and weeks I had debated Mazda3 or VW Golf. I baby my car and thought to myself if I dont baby my VW is it going to hold up nicely past 100k?

According to the OP, his 2004 TSX was "bomb proof for 7 years". In my immediate family we have owned a 94 Audi cabrio, 97 jetta vr6, 2000 jetta 1.8t, 2003 VW beetle 1.8t, 1999 a6, 2001 s4, 2002 s4, 2005 s4, 2009 a6 3.0t. All of them have been unreliable and needed constant maintenance. The 2009 is not in the shop any less than the 94 was. I am aware of the transmission problems that Acuras have but I have yet to experience any of them since there is such a simple fix. We have experienced a total of 4 tranny failures in our VW's amongst an abundance of other issues.

The golf R will have a lot standard. Leather seats included. The only options i can really think of is navi sound system and i dunno if they are putting xenon headlights as base? Or sunroof.
