you know what sucks, for the 11' gti there is no more touchscreen multimedia display as a standard. You need to get the sunroof to get it now. Soo gay!

And congrats on the purchase! Post some pics!!

Had one before. Transmission started slipping. Traded it in for a Civic.

Would I buy another? Hell yeah, but maybe I'll get a manual next time.

Congrats! Don't be nervous. From what I understand the VW diesels are pretty much bullet proof.

Post pics!

Here is a thought:

Lease it for 2-3 years FIRST.. if you really love that car after the lease, then BUY IT.. you can finance it with however many months you want or you can pay it off at once.

So in case it turns out to be a POS in terms of reliability, now you will have the option to return it after the lease instead of being stuck with it forever...

and

60 month finance + Interest is pretty much the same as 24/36 month lease + Residual value + the remaining Tax, unless you put a HUGE downpayment on finance, then you'd probably save some on interests...

FASTACURA that is a nice GTI. I have always loved VW, and always wanted a GTI. I think they are overpriced here in Canada tho so I never got one. Was thinking of getting a new one at some point but didn't wanna spend close to 36 000$ after interest and taxes on that car.

Oh thanks Serbian friend. I came from a 330Ci and I think they are priced great here in the U.S. The quality is top notch for the price you pay. My friend was telling me that they start in the mid 30s in Germany.

They do only have 200 hp out of the box, but for less than $500, that can go up to 250 and almost 300 lb/ft of torque (which is what it should come with stock.)

Around 76,000.

It was the regular 6AT. I shouldn't have believed VW when they said the fluid in the transmission was lifetime. Oh wells, sometimes you learn things the hard way.

So you're basically saying that you think VW is completely incapable of improving their vehicles, even over a 7 years span. which is a lot in car years especially in this day and age where technology is advancing faster than most of us can keep up with.

I'm not saying VW hasn't had its share of issues, but it's not like Honda/Acura are immune from issues. It's just that when people cry about German brands they tend to cry louder than those crying about Honda/Acura. How many German brands had thousands upon thousands upon thousands of failures with faulty transmissions compared to Acura/Honda did with the odyssey, accord, CL, TL? Just using the tranny failure as one example, but if you want to discuss some others, there's shotty brakes on the odyssey and CL that's another, or faulty IMRC on the CL that's another, or how about more recently the air bag recall?

In the 3 years of owning our '08 A4 Avant, I have yet to have any issues come up other than the driver door being slightly out of alignment. No problems with the motor, tranny, nothing. Sure I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I also keep my fingers crossed for my Integra and even more so for my wife's POS Sentra which likes to give us hell every 3 or 4 months.

Was it VW that told you that in the actual owners manual or some ignorant car service rep?

I don't think there was a service interval in the owners manual for the transmission. The DSG is serviced every 40k but nothing for the automatic transmission.

The fluid itself was $40 a liter . Not sure how much it costs now.

DSG 40k mile service runs between $500 - $800.
DIY kits are about $400.00.

However I got mine done for $55.00

...and I did not do it myself, and yes, it was done at the dealer.

How often is DSG service done? The GTI was 6k over my budget for the DSG with 4 doors.

bulletproof Acura my ass. Have you heard of transmission problems on countless number of CL/TLs in the early 2000's?

gawd.. sick of these people complaining about their old ass experiences

On my second transmission. Which I feel is going. For some reason if I'm driving city speeds and I'm in D5. I will hear grinding noises when just trying to maintain speed or slowly increasing speed. Doesnt happen when in D4.

Brakes are warped. They were years back and we changed out rotors and pads and well it came back a years later.

Power steering has a leak somewhere and to properly fix it would require me replacing the whole thing, dunno if thats true but a couple mechanics told me that.

But then I will say it still is reliable in some aspects. But know this car is not bullet proof.

According to the OP, his 2004 TSX was "bomb proof for 7 years". In my immediate family we have owned a 94 Audi cabrio, 97 jetta vr6, 2000 jetta 1.8t, 2003 VW beetle 1.8t, 1999 a6, 2001 s4, 2002 s4, 2005 s4, 2009 a6 3.0t. All of them have been unreliable and needed constant maintenance. The 2009 is not in the shop any less than the 94 was. I am aware of the transmission problems that Acuras have but I have yet to experience any of them since there is such a simple fix. We have experienced a total of 4 tranny failures in our VW's amongst an abundance of other issues.

To be honest, my TSX wasnt actually cheap to own. If anything I was lucky I bought the extended warranty.

My compressor went out after 1 yr of owning the car. The dealers around here refused to cover it under warranty stating that it was damaged by a rock. That was 700 dollars out of my pocket.

My factory warranty expired after 3 years of owning the car due to the high mileage I put on it. Somewhere in year 4, my A/C died. It was a 2500 dollar job to fix, but luckily I had bought the extended warranty which covered it.

My master cylinder was also replaced twice due to squeaky noise, lucky again for the extended warranty.

3200+ dollars for an Acura in the first 4 years isnt cheap to me.

Engine wise, however, I never had a problem with the TSX.

Lets see, owned a 09 Rabbit for almost 2 years and 30K km's and haven't had one issue. (knocks on wood)

In the 3 years I've owned my 07 Honda Odyssey.
- New tranny
- New torque converter
- New power steering pump
- New power steering fluid reservoir
- 3 TSB's for transmission re-programming
- New rear wheel bearings

and it eats brakes and tires.

Yup, I'll take my chances with a VW again thank you very much. Having said that I still leased the VW because I wasn't entirely comfortable at the time of purchase.

I consider all VW sedans to be bugs that should be squashed !!
But then Adolf said the same on all Jews.
The cheaper than Porsche SUV is more to consider but
like all German Autos ... kinda $$$ on Cost of Ownership.

You guys want a bulletproof Honda. Buy my old 06 Accord, its at the dealer, I traded it in. I got in new put 102k on it and ZERO issues. No warped rotors, no 3rd gear issues, NADA.

Just got kind of sick of shifting, thats all.
