Would you buy a car with CVT?

Would you buy a car with CVT? How about if it was an Acura? What are your feelings on CVT?

I remember reading a couple years about how they have trouble dealing with powerful engines. Not sure how much that has changed. Since I'm into modding and powerful engines, I probably wouldn't get one, but if I were to leave it stock, I'd consider it.

If acura made it...I don't know, I'd probably wait several years. I'm still bitter about the three A/T transmissions I've been through and I haven't even hit 75k miles yet.

i wouldn't mind it.
i've rode snowmobiles for years which more or less CVTs
i mean it wouldn't be a "deal breaker" feature the CVT.
it's something to try out for awhile.

my 4 wheeler has a cvt. i know thats not the same as a car, but it works and feels great. it seems like it always at its optimum powerband. if you've ever driven a snowmobile its very similar to that. i really can't explain much, as i really have no idea how it works.

wtf is the difference exactly? My gf's mini has the CVT transmission and all we both can say is that it blows ASS. It literally feels like there is a shitty manual driver behind the wheel, as we bob back and forth all the damn time. OH, and her car is loud as hell, but I don't know if that's just the Mini or what.

Don't know....never driven one. It's not getting a positive reaction here, though.

Never even understood the concept of it too. A car with endless gears did not sound fun at first

I looked into a nissan before I bought my TL and the CVT was the biggest deturant for me. I talked to my brother who is a transmission rebuilder, and he didnt have much good to say about them as of yet. Also at the time the only way to repair a bad one was through the dealer and even then it had to be ordered from the manufacturer to then put in your car.....didnt sound like a good turn around time to me!

Didn't Audi stop offering the CVT, or reduce its use? I have no faith in CVT durability for engines with more than 200 hp/200 ft.lb. torque, so I wouldn't get a CVT (or a DSG-- I'd go full auto or regular manual).

I remember back home when Subaru introduced the Justy CVT circa 1990. It always surprised me the idea of having an endless amount of gears.

I would consider a CVT. Seems that the engine revs to a sweet spot.

my mom is looking into a new Lexus 400h and it has CVT. Do most hybrids have CVT. Since she is obviously not a sporty driver or into modding would a CVT be fine for her?

I just want to make sure she doesnt buy this lexus and then end up having massive transmission problems. We test drove the Lexus and the CVT was pretty cool, but that was for an SUV with an electric motor. I dont think i would like it in a normal sedan or coupe.

I'd never buy a car without a clutch pedal, but I've never driven a CVT before. After having heard what people said about it for the past few years and seeing those vids, my answer is

Would it make a car go faster compared to a MT counterpart since its always in the optimum rev range?

the new lancers (not the evos) have a cvt w/ paddle shifters. doesnt that defeat the purpose of a cvt?

Past tense. I own an 05 Murano which we purchased back in August 2005. In the Mo (and IMHO), the CVT saps its acceleration and the fuel economy benefits have been dubious at best.

The MINI CVT was horrible. Hence they ditched it very quickly.
Sux that your gf bought one with a CVT.

Nissan's CVT's are great.
