Wiper Blades

I always see a ton of threads online comparing wiper blades but I'm hoping I can compile a bunch of different brands and lines of wiper blades so we can make informed decisions for the rain and snow that's coming for most, if not all of us.

What vehicle are they on? How long has/does it wipe cleanly for... months, a year, or more? And is it mostly sunny/rainy/snowy in your area around the winter months?

I need to remember to do the Rain-X treatment.... I've wanted to try out PIAA super silicone blades/refills too, but they're kinda expensive.

I love silicone wipers, I don't think I can go back, and hate driving cars with old wiper blades. I laugh at cars that have their wipers on like full blast in a drizzle.

I had the PIAAs on my Legend in Calfornia. They were super quiet, and wiped pretty clean. If I recall correctly, I noticed a little bit of streaking after like 2 years, but sold my car. It wasn't to the point where they needed to be replaced, just like if I got a little mist on my car they wouldn't wipe completely clean. In decent rain, they still moved the water pretty good.

here in Hawaii, I put Silblades on my xB, and just bought/replaced them with some more. I think they're a little cheaper than the PIAAs, and I'd say just probably just as good. Might be a little louder, but not by much, and it might just depend on the car. I think I replaced my stock wiper blades at like 6 months, and just replaced them so that puts it at like 4 years old. The ones I replaced were probably fine, they were about the same point my PIAAs were, where they just didn't completely clear like a mist after one swipe. I'd say I was happy with the Silblades.

I'm not sure which climate is worse for the blades. I think Hawaii gets stronger sun, and I probably use my wipers at least like 2-3 times a week (I live on the wet side of the island). But at least they get regular use here vs. LA, where they could go months without use. Another thing is in LA my car was almost always outside, whereas here in Hawaii, I'm generally parked in a carport (although parked outdoors at work for a while). Don't know anything about snow

Other than OEM inserts, I've only used Bosch Icons.

On my TL-S, they were great at first, but lasted about 6 months before wiping streaks. I also used them on my dad's Avalon, and they lasted well over a year and still wiped clean. So hit or miss for me personally with Bosch Icons.

I also had mixed success with the Bosch Icons. When I first put them on they were quiet and did a great job. In about a year I had some streaking. I guess the key is to replace them on a regular basis.

Just put a set on my car. Yeah they were $55, but they last 5 years & do not streak, or make noise, & if they start to wear out for any reason I can call the company up & they will replace them for free.

I've had nothing but great performance out of Bosch Icons. My Rain-X Latitudes on the other hand...were not up to par. Streaking, squeaking, etc.

Apparently the deal with the inconsistent results on the Icons is because manufacturers mess around with the formulations all the time. Most likely the same case goes for other wiper manufacturers too. I know people who have had Icons for over a year now and they still wipe well and reviews online say that they only last a few months before they need replacing.

Just something interesting to note, a couple of weeks back we just got new sleeves for the Bosch Icon packages. They weren't any different, they just slipped on new cardboard to make it look different. Maybe this is common, but this is the first time I've seen it.

Here in rainy Portland, I have the worst time finding decent, quiet, long-lasting wiper blades. Thanks for posting this site. Think I'll bite the bullet and go for it.

I dont know how some of you keep wiper blades on vehicles for years? Do you just never use them or drive when you need them? I replace mine 2 times a year. Spring and Fall. Its the single cheapest safety device you can put on a car. Ive run just about every type of blade out there and i like silblade the best. Getting a pair of wipers to make it thru winter and still work around here in the spring is pretty hard to do.

I think they're cheaper on Amazon. They even went on sale on amazon a few months ago (the main reason I bought more), and I got a pair for under $30.

Ive had the same set of Icons on my CL since August 2008. Theyre are starting to streak a bit, but I love them.

I might try out those Sil Blades fuzzy mentioned.

On their website I see three versions, the premium, flexblade, and uniblade. Which set did you go with?

I have just the normal silblades, I guess premium. Weird though, looks like Amazon is carrying mostly the uniblade. I'm not sure they had that when I bought mine.

I have Bosch wipers. Not sure if they're the Icons or not, but they work fine. I think Rain-X spray has more effect than the wipers.

Just ordered a set of the Silblade Uniblade wipers. It looks like I'll be in Texas when they get here so you'll get a review from me around Halloween.

two times a year... damn thats a lot

why does it matter if you leave it on for a while if it works as it did when it was new? (For those that can last longer than a year)

i do the same, spring and fall is when i change em. I use Bosch Icons on the Integra and wife's sentra. the blades on the audi are the same style so i just keep those oem as they work really well.

if you just keep and eye on sales and rebates, replacing them twice a year isnt so bad.

I got some clear coat overspray on my windshield. That probably effed up my wipers a bit. Someone in the forums recommended NeoForm with Teflon. I bought a pair from Napa Parts last night. We'll see how well they wipe.

OEM for the Fit (try getting a decent 13" blade). Rain X Latitudes lasted years on my TL. I went with Icons on my G and they were beat on by 6 months of use. Switched to rain x blades on my G too and I remember why I liked them so much.

Ira, you know you can get just the inserts for the Fit, right? You don't have to buy the whole blade each time.

Because its cheap safety. Not to mention after a winter of freezing temps, salt and sand they just dont perform like new. Most people waste more money putting in full syn and an expensive filter just to change it every 3k. I like to see where im going.

Costco sells Goodyear "blade" style wipers for $7 each. They send out coupons for BOGO frequently. They work just as well as the Bosch blades I had before and last around a year. They are a good value and well made.

The skies opened up tonight and it has been raining heavily and steadily for about three hours now and let me say the Silblades are nothing short of AWESOME. No squeaking, no streaking or chattering...they're awesome. Now if they can hold up to one whole Oregon winter, I'll be completely sold.

I've actually got a 2003 Pilot rear wiper insert in the factory rear wiper blade on my Santa Fe. It works perfectly (actually better than OEM) and only cost $3 on employee pricing. Sure beats the hell out of the $40 Hyundai wanted for the full blade. They can take that and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

I actually just got another pair of the Bosch Icons. After three years and three months of use, they needed to be replaced. I wanted to try the Silblades but decided to stick with whats familiar.

Portland - I await your Spring thaw report on those blades.

Bosch icons and a double treatment of Rain X I rarely use my wipers ad if I have to its because of the fine mist rain if anything. Honestly I would say do the rain X first if anything then you can use regular wipers if you need to.

And mind you I have been somewhat lazy with my wiper as they have not been replaced for 2 years now since I keep my car garaged, I think I spent 30 ish dollars on the wipers but rain x seems to be the best thing I have done.

Also I have been messing around on a friends car by using meguiars ultimate detailing product on his windshield and even though it says not to use it on glass it works like a really light coat of rain x just have to use quite a bit of it.

Yea, I usually wax my windows, which does help. I also clean the blades every time I was the car, so that probably helps them last long.

I read reviews on amazon that people had a hard time contacting silblade for replacements. in fact, the reviews said they could never get through to anyone from silblade. they ended up complaining to amazon which sent them another set. btw, amazon has the premium blade for the 2G TSX for super cheap...like 20 bucks total for both blades...is that normal?

Driver side blade is 26 inches and passenger is 16 inches I believe.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...tomotive&psc=1
Respective costs are $8.88 and $13.65.

^ I saw the same thing. People also mentioned that the blade wouldnt stay on the arms, but one person said thats because they probably didnt push the clips all the way onto the arms. I find it odd that so many people on there had trouble with them staying attached though.

And the blades for the CL (24" and 19") were $32 shipped.

Update... I would not buy Anco Contours again. On two different cars they're skipping and making noise after being use only a few times. These are garbage.

I'm tempted to just shell out for Silblades. Just gonna save these Contours for use in the summer to preserve whatever will replace them.
