Who would win this race?

I'm trying to get a race......me vs 2003 Accord EXV6 6MT coupe....

I have a Auto 04 Tl with an Injen.......I would think the TL is faster but he is a pretty good driver. Do you guys think I should keep my mouth shut?

it should be a close race.. i wouldnt be surprised if he got in front on the highway.. and from a stand still he should be in front...

240hp 6mt and it's lighter than the 270hp 5AT TL...

turn off VSA, and floor it properly. Try to launch your 5AT a few more times prior to the race.

Be safe.

accord, they basically have the same engine as us. the horsepower is under rated. the sticker says 240hp but when it's dyno'ed it comes in about 12hp lower than the TL. so my guess is that the hp on the accord is much closer to 260. if he can drive his manual decently he will probably out edge you. its going to be pretty close tho.

I have my flame suit on for this...
Why does it matter? These cars aren't meant to be raced rather enjoyed for what they are, a classy, elegant, beautiful piece of machinery.

This will be a very close race. If you didn't have the Injen, I would have to say he'd beat you. Those 6MT Accord coupes are ridiculously fast; they have a 0-to-60 time of about 5.9 sec and I remember reading on here that a guy at a track had that car with just an AEM intake and it ran a 13.9. This will be a really close race; but instead of racing one of your fellow Honda brethren, why not take out a 3.5 Maxima/Altima or a G35 or something?

I think the Accord will edge out the 5AT TL. They don't look fast but they are. I think they under rated the hp b/c so they can market the TL otherwise why would you buy a TL when you can save over $6000.00 for an Accord that has just as much hp to the TL. My friend has 2004 6MT Accord V6 with an intake and perfermance muffler and I rode in his car and it pulls more than my TL hands down. But give it a shot since stock vs stock you might have a chance.

Respectfully, I advise that you keep your mouth shut. A manual Accord Coupe will hand an auto TL its ass, all other things being equal.

That would be VERY close. I think it depends on distance (and driver, obviously). If you're going the whole 1320, I think the TL would edge it out. To 60, I think neither car would be ahead by more than a foot, that's how close I think it would be.

Your better off racing a different make. Don't race your own kind. Just know that both your cars are fast and leave it at that.

I gotta give this one to the 6spd Accord, judging by the times I have witnessed with them and those times were much better than any auto TL thusfar. 6spd to 6spd good race and very driver dependent.

racing a honda isn't like making out with your sister.

it would be pretty close dude. i had a hard time keeping up with one on the highway. i'm assuming it was a manual (i have auto). when we both hit it i was behind him, we kept pretty much the same distance. i couldn't believe the accord was that fast. i was never able to catch up to him until he obviously let off the gas.

I notice alot of people in another thread say the G35 is much faster than the TL. I realize that the G lends itself to modification more but why is it so much faster?

Is it lighter?
Underrated?
RWD have soimething on us?
Or is this just bs?

Also what would it take for a TL to run one down? Exhaust? NOS?computer work?

Lighter. More torque. Yes, RWD helps cars accelerate w/ less wheelspin. There's no getting around the fact that the Nissan Skyline is an incredible driving platform.

But look at it this way:
You have greater luxury, superior features, and better ergonomics like a volume knob on your stereo. He has a titanium-colored plastic center console and a gauge cluster that tilts with his non-telescoping steering wheel.

That post will make Acura (not to mention Consumer Reports) proud. :P

Yes you will have to race and find out. I ran with one on the highway with my AT and it seemed just as fast as my car. It has slightly less HP, but a manual nearly always produces more wheel HP, plus it is lighter than the TL. Just like racing a TL type S, it is very close. Last night just for fun my friend and I raced with my Tl and his 4cyl Accord. Of course he slipped the clutch a little bit, be he still kept up with me until about 30-35, and that was a 5MT 4 banger! He is a good MT driver though. Honda makes good manuals. Let us know, but don't be surprised either way.

EDIT: The G35 is proven to be faster, and this is because it's .3 liters more displacement (ours is 196cc and I think G35 is 220 or so), which provides more torque and HP potential. The car is also lighter, and weight is always a big factor with speed. That's why some kit cars with like 75cc engines (estimate) can run 0-60 in like 3.5 seconds, they only weigh 800-1000 pounds.

Am I the only one who's doubtful here? I really didn't have much problem against one of these from onramp to 140mph. Guy ended up at least 5 car lengths behind me on open (LA to Vegas) freeway. Yes, I knew what it was (red V6 emblem, I started out right behind him). Guy was driving like a punk b**ch and these voices in my head keep telling me to do things.

There's no V6 emblem on the back of a G35. It has the Infiniti logo in the center of the trunk, and "G35" on the right side.

Maybe you beat a Passat.

I believe he's referring to the 6MT AV6, whose 'V6' badge is red/chrome which signifies that its a 6MT. (as opposed to the black/chrome 'V6' badge on most V6 Accords.)

Umm, I haven't seen any proof that the G35 is faster!? In fact, I've seen proof in a direct comparison in C&D that the TL is faster. Having a larger engine does not mean it's faster. Having higher peak torque does not mean it's faster. Posting better acceleration numbers means (to most) that it's faster, and that's what the TL did in a 6MT to 6MT sedan comparison (the only one I've seen btw). Plus, the TL only gives up 20lbs to the G35 sedan from what I've seen.

I'm mostly being a devil's advocate here - I really don't care all that much. However, I'm still wondering why people are saying the G35 is faster when these cars are so close. I really don't think the TL is faster any more than I think the G35 is faster. I think it's a driver's race and I think that people that are spouting "oh the G35 is waaayyy faster" need to check their facts. Yes, RWD and more torque may make the G35 easier to accerate quickly, but that does not make it faster. In capable hands, it's been proven that the TL can keep up with or surpass the G35. Check Car & Driver 3/2004.

I am just going by memory from reading lots of reviews about both cars. From what I recall, for both cars AT 0-60 TL is 6.3 and G35 is 6.2. For MT, TL is 5.7 and G35 is 5.6. These are the best times I have seen posted for both. If I remember right though, It said the 1/4 times for MT TL were .1 faster than MT G35, and AT TL tied AT G35. Don't quote that though. I think C&D may have posted a 5.6 0-60 for 6MT TL. Anyway, that's not a huge difference either way and I don't think anyone bought this car to be a racer anyways. Although racing against other SEDANS is fun because you will win a majority of the time. As far as 1/4 times G35ers have had that are supposedly "kicking the TL's ass", these have been from 635 trolls on this forum and I haven't seen slips,. I place no validity on these.

By the way, how much do you miss your prelude? I must get rid of my car by December for insurance reasons, and was thinking about a prelude possibly. Do they handle better than TL? Smooth driving? How bout quickness? Nice inside? I would get an MT if I did, probably 97-00 SH. Thanks
