WHEN to bed in brakes?

Just put on new pads and rotors. Drove around for maybe 15-30 miles already, mostly highway. Is it still too late to bed in my brakes? I'm going to wait til its late, late at night.... traffic is way too busy at the moment.

No-- you do want any production film and surface contaminants off the rotors and pads before the bedding process, which means using the brakes a little first.

However, different manufacturers have different bedding recommendations: some recommend 400-500 miles of regular driving, while Brembo, Hawk, etc. recommend a series of brake applications from 60 mph: see http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/tech/....jsp?techid=85

Have fun, and be careful.

Yep I used the hawk method of bedding in my brakes pretty much the minute I got them on. I found a nice quiet street in an industrial complex and it worked out great.

it's never too late.

If you were to get some pad material built up on the rotor a few months from now, you could re-bed them to "burn" it off.
