Why not just buy a set of wheels, keep the stockers and switch them back out when you return the car? Then you can either sell the aftermarket wheels or keep them for your next car.

thanks for the advice guys. this will be the last time i will have/need a car for the next 10 years or so.

wheels are out - the quality of plastidip/painted wheels is absolutely not where i would like it to be...but i just got back from buying vinyl, and will be vinyling the roof this weekend.

if you're there for ten years.. then why not just buy a car and do whatever you want to it? Are you going to lease a different car every two years?

I still say, buy wheels, sell them when the time comes.

Nope but then again I never really went out and searched for problems with it. I have 3M material that's meant for outdoor applications.

Please do, so I can taze the dumb ideas out of your head.

From those G35 Pix, it looks plastdip look 90% matte black, so if people want to have black wheels, maybe Plastdip might not be a bad idea... just by itself without spraying anything else.

Plasti-dip + Gold, looks pretty good to me....

If you have inexpensive wheels and want to have some fun with it... i dont see the problem with it.

Many people powercoat/paint their factory wheels, i personally would do this instead of powercoating if I WERE to change OEM colors.

I dont like painted OEM wheels FYI, but i like the idea of cheap, resersable paint.

I know some MS3 owners have plastidipped their OEM rims. It looks alright, but imho they look a little ricey to me. I would just leave the OEM rims alone.

Putting something on my car that is 100% removable is dumb? Maybe I'll buy a 16 year old car like you and turbo it. That will help the resale value.

Actually numb nuts I've owned the car since 1997, and I could sell it now w/ the turbo for more than what it books for stock.

Beat it nerd.

And take your rice w/ you.

100 bucks says when you leave your kick ass vinyl on the car, for a year and sun bakes the shit out of it, clear coat will come off when you decide to pull it off one day. you fuckin moron.

Dude, WTF is your problem?

I personally don't like putting vinyl stuff on my car too. But you have to understand that everyone has different tastes in modifying their cars.

You obviously have never worked with Vinyl before. Unless he sprayed his roof clearcoat with rattle cans, then No, the clearcoat is not gonna come off.

Bye

We have derailed.
I'll say that originally, I like things on a car and a few months later I'll despise it.

2 examples are painted stock wheels and vht on the tails. I thought they were cool, cheap and reversible and ended up hating them every time I saw them. Nothing beats the color and durability of oem wheels.

About the vinyl wrap...sorry, gotta agree here. If you want your roof black for a look you might change your mind about later. Vinyl is the way to go. I highly doubt there will be any damage from it. Vinyl is a great, cheap alternative to painting things.

Rice? People put vinyl on every single car imaginable. Get over it. The BMW/MB/Audi guys especially love it. One guy completely wrapped his 3 series in it. However, nothing says rice like a turbo'd 1990s Eclipse that the owner thinks is worth gold.

well, i attempted to do the roof, but it just didnt work out, since there were no helping hands. i did some other things tho - froze the taillights, blacked out the reflectors, and debadged and painted the plugs.

If you sprayed the adhesive side of the vinyl with water it help makes it easy to adjust or slide around into position. If you did this, this job could have easily been done by one person with no problems. Don't dealerships frown on debadging a leased car?

How did you apply the vinyl? Did you prep the area like one would prep a window before laying tint on a window? Because I think that's how you would/should do it for the best results. No?

and FWIW, Powder Coat all the way...just did my wheels, looks great!

IF you are going to PlastiDip anything, put the cans in warm water for 30 min BEFORE spraying and put it back in warm water between coats. Spray it thin. It will take MANY MANY (like 10) more coats to cover but the finish will be VERY smooth. It will also allow the paint you spray on top of it to lay smooth and look like it was painted on the rim itself.

COMPLETELY uncalled for. Knock it off! Only warning.

And ill up your 100 bucks to 1000 and guarantee it wont. (unless you take it to macco for one of their great paint jobs)

I'm guessing some posts got deleted?

Do what was mentioned, I know of one guy that didn't lay the PD on thick enough and he's had a bish of a time trying to remove it. In MY OPINION, I like the idea of either powdercoating or nothing. I like permanent solutions.

Wow blast from the past...never did this mod. was just experimenting for the two yrs spent outside manhattan w a car...that's said, been without a car and sarlacc hater free for over a year now. I suppose the plastidip method would be good if you wanted to spend a weekend day toiling to see if you like the bronze look. Ended up just getting bronze wheels at the time

It may peel off just fine, but what many fail to consider is the amount of fading the uncovered paint will have vs the covered paint. Not worth it IMHO.
