What's the resale like for our cars?

I figure If I lose 3K a year, that's not bad. I got my 2003 6spd in Oct 02, so I've had it for 2 years... I don't think I'd get 23K now for it, but I might be able to get 20K for it next oct (2005), and should be able to get 17-19 for it in Oct 06, and hopefully I'll get 15K for it when I get my new 2007 Acura Coupe

The longer you keep it, the better it is... The least expensive car out there is the one in your driveway...

unfortunately, the numbers will not work out the way you described. the fact of the matter is that these cars values are dropping like rocks. when i got rid of my 2002 CL-S last year, it was less than 1 year old, had 11k miles and was mint....i got 19.5k for it. the car dropped 10 thousand dollars in less than a year. at this point right now you would be lucky to get anything over 17k-18k
a year from right now, maybe youre looking at 15k.
in time for your 2007 Acura?
youll be lucky to get 10k
it sucks....but its true......
soooo many factors play into this, including some of the following.....
-horrible used car market due to extensive rebates and low intrest (0 intrest) on new models
-oversaturation of similar cars in the used market
-discontinued vehicle
-outdated vehicle (based on 1998 honda accord platform)
-american made
-low demand
while your 6 speed MAY be able to hold its value slightly better than a tiptronic, it isnt as significant as you think.
there was a guy on here 2 weeks ago who just got 9k for trade in for his 01 CL-S....what does that tell you?
and another guy not too long ago got about 13k for his 03 6 speed with about 75k miles.....
i dont mean to get you down man but someone has to tell you that you expect according to your post are quite a bit off.

It's over the 75K limit for dealers to certify, so that didn't help... Must have gotten the other car at close to invoice, so the dealer made his money on the trade. That's the thing with reading what people got for their cars... you never hear the full story.

I think the 2nd gens have finished off their deprecitation curve and will start to level out price wise, I just can't see a car this nice (great bang for the buck) continue to lose 5K a year in value. Most ~$30K luxury cars will see close to 5k hit the first year (or 2) and then start to level out. I think we've hit the bottom, and you won't see that many selling for under 10K for awhile. 1 gen CLs with under 100K miles are still in the $7500 range (200 mile search on auto trader of 3.0CL under 100K - high $15988, low $10724, average $6900). With the newest 1 gen being a 1999 and with the 2005 coming out, they are 5 years old. I think I should be able to get 12K-15K (private sale) when my 6spd is 5 years old (with about 60K miles).
While the initial depreciation hit might be big, I don't think the cars are going to be worth less then a comparable 1 gen (similiar mileage, age, and condition).
You're probably right that I'll only get about 10K for my car in 2006 (as a trade in), and at that point, I just might decide to keep it. It's paid for anyways, and will make a great winter beater

If the value drops THAT much I’ll be keeping my CL-S for a “winter beater” for many years to come.
No sense selling it in 2007 if I don’t get SHIT.
I’ll buy a RWD “toy” and only use it on sunny days.
Something you have to keep in mind with some of these unusually LOW trade numbers.
Dealers lowball the trade so it looks like you’re getting an awesome deal on the replacement car.
Most people don’t care about the numbers. All they want to see is the new payment.
6-Speeds are gonna follow the downward trend if they are traded in.
The key to a good price is to find a private buyer who appreciates what he’s getting and realizes most of the major problems are tied to the slush box models.

they dont make them anymore... therefore thats the value to me... I cant get this car anymore.. so the one i have is valuable...

Just sold my 03 CL-P with 18K on it for 19,000$. At least I got more than I owed..
Then I saw it on the lot for 24,300$$$$.... Think they sold it 21 thousand..
Best bet is to sell it outright, or even try and track down a car whole-seller...
