What you rather have, M3 or 335i?

Just bored and curious. What would you rather have...

A new 335i coupe or a slightly used E46 M3?

(328 pictured)

Give reasons... GO!

slightly used M3. I personally dont like the new BMW styling and love the styling of the E46 M3 so that would be my main reason.

New 335i: more compliant suspension = better commute & day-to-day driver with minimal difference in acceleration (M3 is faster by 0.2 seconds in quarter mile with a good driver); more rear leg room; probably lower insurance costs; lower purchase price even if the M3 is used.
Actually, I'd probably choose the 335i sedan over the coupe.

The 335 coupe is nice, but I like the E46 M3 more.

But my love is the E39 M5.

I wouldn't choose the 335 because I see too many on the road. I don't like the exterior either.

I'd choose the M3 because I rarely see them and the stance is just best.

E46 M3. Looks better IMO, it just looks so good. Wouldn't change a thing about its exterior unless it involved the letters C, S & L. The E90 just looks like it won't age well.

But I agree with Chrometide. E39 M5 ftw. Timeless design. And I always wished they made an E46 M3 sedan....

Love the 335i.....love the E46 M3 a little more. But with Chung, I see the E46 M3 all the time. As for the 335i I see more of them around here than I do the IS350.

It's really a toss up. I like the M3, but if I get the E46 M3 and the new one comes out... It'd make the E46 look old. The 335i isn't as fast but can modify it easily. Tough choice........... but I went with 335.

Gonna have to go with an E46, the E90's styling just hasn't grown on me yet. the blue one you posted looks like a baby GTO.

i'd go with the M3. Personally, I'm not too crazy about the new 3 series styling and whether it's old or not, I think the M3 overall is a much better purchase for the money. I've never been the kind of person that needs to have the newest version of anything, so the M3 would be a better choice for me on that aspect as well.

E30 M3 all the way-one of my favorite cars of all time, and I will own one eventually. The 335 is nice, but its no M car, and I see too many old people driving them.

335 FTW. It's got a better ride, it's nearly as fast (and can easily be modded to be faster), and one of the many body kits will differentiate you from 99% of other e92s (I like the M5 replica kit the best). Not to mention its a 5 year newer car and has better technology and a better interior.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that another plus point is obviously the twin turbos and the torque they make.

I would take the M3 always been my favorite car plus I'm already sick of seeing the 335i they are like civics now out here , everyone got one in every trim.

Always spying the dual exhaust outlets, they are fairly common here in central NJ.

335. The E46s look really dated to me now... not that they don't still catch my eye. And the 335s are much more rare around here since they're new, yeah I know that will change. They're almost as fast and I'd rather have a new car with free maintenance and a warranty.

I said M3 just because it seems like a modern classic. I like the stance when looking from the rear.

In reality I wouldn't get either because I like sedans. Would like to see another M3 sedan come out.

I'd go with a 335i ... E46 M3 is going to be trumped by the new model V8 thus the resale value will go down the tubes. I will admit the looks of the E46 does appear better to me but the current gen 3-series is growing on me.

this is the question which is killing me.
M3:
proven reliability (04-06), NA engine (more stable IMO), More ergonomi interior, driver oriented cockpit, no modding necessary(short of blower not really practicle either)

335:
newer, warranty longer, torque, modibility (although it will mess up warranty).

They're totally different driving experiences, but I'd take the 335i hands down. It's a much more refined daily driver and by the looks of things, it's already got a strong aftermarket following.

I think people are going to have a hard time unloading the E46 M3's in the near future.

e46 m3. aggressive stance, etter handeling and more of a drivers car.

drop a AA blower on it and push out 400--450 wheel hp or more. that would be a beast on the track and street.

plus i always loved the design

The 335 can make a hell of a lot of power, but is no where near the fun of driving an M3 to the limits. I'd take the 33t5 for comfort and modability though, plus turbos sound so ill.

A factory motor built for boost is always in most cases built for much more boost than the manufacturer throws at it. If anything, stock for stock a factory boosted motor is usually built stronger than an NA motor. The reason people think that NA's are more stable is because you dont see heads/cam/exhaust/intakes blowing motors up. Whereas turbo guys can get out of control and push too much boost past the compression limits of the motor, thus blowing it. Think about how many guys blow NA motors with Nitrous applications. Turbos get a bad rep because of all the idiots adding more boost and not upgrading their fuel system, or bolting on bigger turbos and thinking it's ok. The beauty of a turbo car is that you can safely make 50-100 more horses for the most part with just bolt ons and tuning on a stock internal motor. To get that in an NA car, it would take boost(which if you have a high compression motor is a no-no), stroking the motor, or camming it up & going aggressive with the heads, thus killing the every day driveability.

i voted for the 335.

i think it looks better inside/out. the e46 looks too outdated now, though it is a beautiful car. and it's way too common now. but i'm sure the 335 and new m3 will be too.
